To all the folks on this comment section saying that the small tom "sounds choked", ya might ought to get your hearing checked. I listen to these videos through headphones, nice Koss headphones, and the toms sound natural and the tone is perfect. Go back and listen to John Densmore, Joe Morello, Ringo, Roy Hayens, Hal Blaine, Roger Hawkins on their various records. They ALL used Ludwig kits with shell mounted toms attached to the bass drum. Listen to Joe Morello's drums on "Time Out". Perfection.

They haven't gone back to that mounting system. Classic Maples are ordered in any configuration you like, so Memphis picked this kit up with that option on it.

When a drum is choked it will sound less deep. It will cut short before being emotionally satisfying.. It will have less *punch.* I had Ludwigs with both kinds of mounts. Dave Phillips was right. Mounting directly to the shell with no wiggle room will choke both the tom and the bass if they are attached in the mounting. I learned it the hard way. Bought a set with direct mounting to replace a free float type, and regretted my new purchase from the first try.

What amazes me is that resonant sound of the 12 tom! I mean, its tuned reasonable high (which I like and usually do) and on a single tom mount. I put my tom on a snare stand and sounds good, but this seems to sound even better. I would expect LESS tone on a tom holder! What could be the reason for that??
