How to do the Sound Generator Mod on a BMW Z4 Before & After

The soundtrack in the E85 BMW Z4 3.0i is simply sublime. However, it is rather subdued with all the road noise, but there is something that can fix that. So I will show you how to perform the Sound Generator Mod on your BMW Z4 with both methods; which in turn completely enhances the sound experience internally!

This was standard on the 3 litre models. I retro fitted it to my 2.2, and it sounds as good as this. I kept 1/2 a sponge in, and it sounds just right to me, the perfect balance between engine, intake and exhaust noises. Love it!

I found dropping the top of my roadster increases the sound mod nicely.

It’s different for any z4m. The s54 has a different sound generator hose
At least that thing has ITB’s tho lol, and vanos starts to kick in at 2750 lol.

Ok so I finished the mod, how do I get the piece to fit back into the hole in the firewall? Currently it’s just loosely hanging infront of it where as before it was fit into it and you needed force to pull it out.

Like how do I get it to pop back in?

So I’d think on the left hand drive model the tube is on the same side as the steering wheel. Has anybody done the mod on lhd and knows how easy or difficult it is to get it done?
