As an American I don't know much about other countries militaries and what they are like. Today I am very interested in learning about 5 weird British tanks. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!

Every 1 of those tanks is currently at bovington tank museum, having seen them all in person, they're all bigger than you'd expect. My favourite has always been the fv4005, its 183mm l4a1 cannon coming off a battleship. If you ever visit England I strongly recommend visiting bovington as it's 1 of the best tank collections in the world

Judging by the praying mantis tank these may not have got into production. Hobarts funnies were produced during WW2 too counter different threats

The word ‘Tank’ started out as just a cover story. The official name was Land Ships. The first were produced in Lincoln England during WW1. But of course they did not want the Germans to find out, and so a cover story was invented. Someone at the factory noticed that they looked like big water tanks. And so the story was put out, that they were to deliver water to the front lines. British soldiers looked forward to hot baths and brewing tea. Even when the Land Ships arrived in France, the paperwork still stated ‘Water Tank’.

Tog II is the party tenk 😊
Stood next to it at Bovington tank museum and yep, the photos lacking 'human for scale' don't do it justice 😂

Little fact, fv4005 wasnt allowed to have a full traverse turret because the recoil if it fired to the side would literally flip the tank over

All of these tanks can be seen in real life at the Bovington tank museum. It's a good day out honestly.

Hey Tyler, when you said "This is a tank." about the British TOG II just like the "this is a knife, no this is a knife" thing from the movie I was thinking, that's not a tank. The German landkreuzers are tanks! They are the P.1000 Ratte and the P.1500 Monster. They were supposed to weigh 1, 000 metric tonnes (1, 102.3 U.S. tons) and 1, 500 metric tonnes (1653.5 U.S. tons) respectively if built but they were so massive that the minister of armaments, Albert Speer, cancelled their construction.

Better to have ideas that partially fulfil the brief than no ideas at all. Tyler has to remember that there was no computer modelling then so prototypes had to be built for analysis and testing. The amphibious tank also became somewhat of a failure, it floated, travelled well when launched from Landing Ships and negotiated beach landings but couldn't handle choppy seas, the water displacement to enable flotation was provided by canvas shrouding and easily overtopped by waves, several sank and lives lost during testing leading up to 'D' Day. No time to redesign so normal tanks landed on beaches from Landing Craft Tanks, LCT's, were used.

Great to see he now reads at least some comments, and even reacts to some :) should help him learn and retain a lot more

The FV4005 was not meant to see combat, it was a test-bed for the gun while it's actual chassis(the FV214, which would later go onto be become the Conqueror) was still being developed.
These 2 parts were planned to be combined to become the FV215b.

Reminds me of Hobarts funnies, although they were very useful on D-Day and throughout the war

the TOG2 was written off because of what is mentioned in the film, but also changes in the guns on the enemy side meant the armour was no longer thick enough also, dont worry about the tog2 and the tortoise, they were not as big as the american prototype that never saw service, the T28, also by number 3 you said you have never come across these tanks, . theyre ALL in world of tanks. Again the FV designation is what was given to any tank design that was still in testing. The FV4005 is what happens when you put battleship guns on a land vehicle.

The idea of the last was to hide its body in a crater or hole, so it didnt need much armour, sometimes this guy has some specific ideas and wont stray from them even when eventually given evidence his previous videos were wrong

The FV4005 was recently fully restored to running condition in a joint venture between the Tank Museum and a chap called Mr Joe Hewes.

As it happens I live reasonably close to the Bovington tank museum where the majority of these vehicles can be seen on display. I have over the years seen and touched every single one of these vehicles. Although I do not recall seeing the Praying Mantis last time I was there, it definitely has been on display in the past and is actually very small, the TLG 2 and Tortoise however are massive and quite impressive to see up close. The TOG 2 is one of my favourite tanks that they have there just for its size and overwhelming presence. You certainly would not want one running you over that is for sure.

That tank with the giant freakin' cannon is like: "don't need defence if there's no enemy to defend from"

okay so as a brit i feel I need to explain. After we left Dunkirk we had somewhere between Bugger and All tanks left, having to abandon them all on a french beach. So we needed more tanks, and we also clearly needed better tanks and as a result anyone with the right connections or enough money could approach the government and say "'ere guv, got tank idea innit" and get a budget to make a design. This was also a time where frankly no one knew for sure what a tank was. thats why every nation, yes including america was coming up with some really stupid ideas like sticking the main gun on the side like the Lee. Almost none of these vehicles made it past the prototype stage, most probably didnt get that far.

Tyler, the YouTube creator we watched today has many channels of amazing educational content to react to. Warfronts(formaly warographics) is a good start. Many topical quality videos to pick from and react to! And the host, Simon encourages reactors to do so!

i love the tog.. the tog meant the old guys.. as it was based on ww1 tech.. it was an awful tank.. when it was hit with gun bullets the paint on the inside would break of and hit the drivers.. it was slow.. you can play it in world of tanks that is a child standing next to it.. the tog is one of my fav silly tanks.. but even then most of the british tanks did not move fast as they was designed to move at the same speed as infantry on foot..

If you want to know more about these and many more tanks, the tank museum has a YouTube channel where they talk about them, while showing you around them. They have a massive collection of British, German and American tanks with a smattering of other nations, like Russian, French, Italian and Japanese
