Notice how whatever cuts out, (beyond everything below 100hz or about 2to 300hz in female vocal cases) he puts back, point being you're not trying to get rid of any of the frequencies, (except the sub stuff like 100hz and below or 300 in this case )when it comes to vocals the goal is to tame them. I find myself not even cutting at 1k and beyond, maybe a dip at 3 and 500hz, then a boost at about 10k or so, then I use multiband to control the top end, d-essing basically, and then controlling the low for more clarity but maintaining body and then compression, followed by verb, deley, widening etc. I usually run in through saturation when recording . Even is the goal mixing not fixing, Devon wins again lol
