( Electronics ) Can you reuse old solder?

In this video I experiment with reusing salvaged solder to make new joins. This is one instance of how people in the maker community can engage in the circular economy. The result wasn't perfect, but this is my first time reusing solder, and I think that with better practices I will see improved results in the future.

In the future I will explore more recycling processes, such as recycling 3D print waste, as well as making my own type of material from such.

--- Notes for Newcomers ---
My name is Adam. I am a sustainability enthusiast and an advocate for a new type of socioeconomic system called a Resource Based Economy, as the backbone of a greater social structure, which I coin Community Ecology. On my channel, you can find out more about these systems and structures, why we should move to an RBE, and much more. My video titled "RBEs in 60 seconds" gives a short, snappy, truncated description of Resource Based Economies, which you may find handy.

In terms of the context of this video, Circular Economics is an integral part of any RBE strategy, in both cultivating an abundance of resources and in eliminating waste streams that end up polluting our planet, and no doubt also contribute to climate change. I think as we move into the next industrial revolution, we should really have a hard think about our resources come from, and I think CE has the answer to that question.

In an RBE, we would recycle most, if not all waste resources for new use, and this would allow people to live a relatively well lifestyle that is also sustainable. This means that circular economics would be baked into every industrial process, including the manufacture of electronic devices.

I have a large blob of rosin on my desk and put all of my used solder on top of the rosin and hold it there untill it melts into the rosin.
Doing that, a small reel of solder has lasted me a few year's but now I have to use some really bad Chinese stuff that just crumbles.. I think it's full of impurities and was wondering if boiling it in boric acid will clean it?
Thanks for your video. 👍
