France initially wanted to sell the australians nuclear subs but the australians wanted diesel subs specifically. So france reengineered their sibs down to diesel subs which are still capable of a later nuclear upgrade.
Now, a decade later, australia is like: actually we want nuclear subs

It was an old deal that’s also why France is angry. The deal was signed in 2016, France trained Australians, hired about 650 engineers on the project, etc. So the anger is understandable

Can’t believe out of all the people Trevor doesn’t get it, it’s not all about the lost deal but US and France are NATO members and share their intelligence the least US could have done is to let France know it first hand And be included in the deal talk.
This shows the how unreliable partner US can be and doesn’t inspire confidence in future.
