Ink Resistance Up: the ability that you have the most extra chunks of. This ability isn't the best by a long shot, but it's still fun seeing what maxing gear out with it looks like.
I think the tetra dualies would show case the ability the best because with the tetras, you're always rolling in ink, so using them would've really shown the true potential of the ability

Ink res depends on weapons.
Just about every weapon does better with 1 sub while slower weapons like Dynamo, heavy or painbrush want alot of it to stop themselves from being frozen still and take passive damage from a single drop of enemy ink

The issue is that this obviously ignores the obvious thing. Yeah, you're never going to be walking through enemy ink for no reason, but enemies are going to paint the ground around you and get you stuck. Ink Resistance Up is the difference between being able to be able to be able to keep dodging the enemy's shots versus being glued to the floor for the enemy to hit a sitting duck. Even in the gameplay going unnoticed plenty is often times he moves throught like a tiny drop, and without the ink resistance up, those tiny drops are more than enough to halt your momentum

I don’t know if you’re fully appreciating what this ability does. With none, enemy ink is pretty much a hard stop. Splatoon is a game all about MAP CONTROL. When you can invalidate the effect of enemy ink on you, you have a huge advantage in mobility, which plays into controlling the map. I have a hypothesis that certain gear abilities actually give you abilities that aren’t listed as a result of playing them, already listed one example above, and another would be NINJA SQUID essentially giving you ink recovery up, since when you run NINJA SQUID, you are more likely to spend more time in the ink because of the safety the ability affords you, hence more ink recovery. It’s worth considering the different options you have just being aware of factors like this in your build. I am a backline player who likes to push objectives really really aggressively. I am almost always located directly behind the skirmishers, who are directly behind the front liners. I COULD NOT be in such a close proximity to my team if I didn’t run ink res. I have tried and it doesn’t work. Ink res can offer you a ton of extra momentum.

Maxing this ability out is as we've watched is useless. But in many weapons I use and main, a main or a few subs is really helpful for weapons that practice a hit and run gameplay, skirmishers (although I don't play these weapons), or weapons with poor ink mobility (Blaster like the Range and chargers) and splatlings who often need to fire whilst moving in lines to take back sections by inking to help their team preserve control or space.
I play both Splatana wipers and the Heavy Edit and for these weapons along my Range blaster, this ability allows better maneuvering to escape or pressure other opponents better. The bit of immunity it gives prevents lag that stops me from taking cover etc. Same for when I play tetras so I don't take enemy ink damage & lag as soon as I roll in their ink :)

You could have chosen some better weapons to test this I feel

it’s not useless, ink resistance is one of the best utility subs :(

This sub def. depends on the weapon how well you know it and your playstyle. I really like it due to nature of it, it's very passive and hard to notice. That being said it also lowers the damage you take from being in ink and how much you take, so if you are aware of what combos due to being in ink you'll have an upper hand; very nice for splatlings that can't ink their feet well.

Side note about Splatoon 1: Fanmade servers are still a thing. Although if you want to play 1 without homebrewing your Wii U you WILL need to start a new account as transferring saves is impossible without homebrew.

The resistance abilities can actually be great, but as others have said it’s dependent on your weapon! imo brushes and splatanas are probably the best weapons to run it, but i personally like to have 2-3 subs unless i’m on something that fights from further away (like stringers and chargers)

ink res definitely sucks in comparison to a ton of other abilities, but it's essential to have a bit of it on something like the hydra splatling. that way i can move onto whatever i like while taking less damage during my long charging phase

Deleting every hitboxes means everyone will fall through the ground eternally 🤔

I consider this a success. I like how easygoing everything is with pure Ink Res. Even with some tilting moments, you had a much more chill time with it than you would have had without it. You even got #1 ground traveler a few times
crabiseternal
Dualie squelchers probably could have made good use of ink res

i love the pikmin music in the background

If your low on ink and you can’t shoot ink without waiting a bit first then ink res is useful
NoShldJ_KonkoLLC
It’s not a bad ability, you should only run 1 sub, to maximize its usefulness and space it takes up

Defense up was a thing in splatoon 1, but also ink resistance was actually a shoe exclusive ability instead of a stackable one back then. It was way better back then too, pretty much the best option if you weren't running stealth jump. Stepping in enemy ink used to do nearly twice as much damage as it does now, and the one ability slot reduced that down to wearing a pure of ink resist in modern splatoon.
Also people who leave chewed gum on the floor are far and away the worst people out there.
squiddler
Usually backlines and weapons that have trouble covering their feet use ink resistance that's probably why you didn't find much use. Dualies and brushes (excluding inkbrush) are good with ink res too.

Man, these remind me of Etce's Splatoon 1 gear series with your gear
