LOVE IN THE PURPLE HEART is a romantic film released on July 29, 2022 in the United States.
A chance encounter changes the trajectory of both men's lives. With Cassie's desperate need for health insurance to pay for her medical bills and Luke's desire to use his married status as a way to get an extra paycheck to pay off his debts, they decide to get married out of their respective interests. At first, the marriage is merely an exchange of benefits. However, living together, Cassie's strength and independence, Luke's loyalty and responsibility, let the two gradually find each other's flash point, mutual attraction, the original cold relationship of interest, quietly breeding warm feelings.
Calm life did not last long, Luke in the execution of the mission suffered serious injuries, life and death is uncertain. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that this was the dumbest possible thing to do, despite the romantic nature of it.
1) The entire case hinged on the testimony of a known drug dealer and criminal, and Cassie would testify that he had broken into their home and assaulted her as well as threatened her mother - he would not be seen as a reliable witness and any defense attorney should be able to tear him apart.
2) Luke and Cassie had been witnessed by 6 serving Marines flirting at their first meeting and it would be entirely plausible for them to quickly marry since Luke was being deployed, furthermore since he got injured and returned home, they had lived together and there is ample evidence of he taking care of him. There would be a dozen people who would testify that they seemed to be a genuine couple.
3) By pleading guilty, Luke served prison time and got a bad conduct dischage, that's not as bad as a dishonourable discharge, but it reduced the benefits he is entitled to and it'll make getting a job harder after he is released, if he had pleaded not guilty and fought it, they probably would have won.

I only didn't understand in this movie is that if she could run towards him at the end when he was sentenced then why couldn't she tell in the court that she actually loves him... especially when her father told her that he is going to reveal the truth... She could have saved him actually from going to jail.. They could have simply said that the drug dealer was actually black mailing them... simple... drug dealer would be behind the bars😅

I can't speak for other branches, but in the marine corps, it is insanely difficult to prove false marriages people do it way more often than not. And the only way it can be proven is if under investigation and both the husband and wife were asked separately, and one of them says it was which none of them going to say that like people will marry strippers, the moment they graduate and everybody knows it's false, but if it can't be proven, which it can't, unless she is blackmailing you then she'll lose her leverage
