The fact that you have a collection of random Pentastar parts is a testament to that engine's lack of reliability

Kids boy friend’s car was running hot. They finally asked for help to check coolant levels. This freaking thing was running hotter than the pits of hell. No idea how they didn’t blow up the engine. Turned out the thermostat wasn’t opening and it was just getting water from the bypass. Pressure was building up so much that it caused a leak at the hose connection to the radiator. They said it had been running hot for a couple weeks. Let them know how stupid they were for driving it that way. Replaced the $25 part and it’s been good since then. Hopes and dreams saved that car.

Can't wait for the handoff back to the family.

I had a customers caravan with a melted intake as well. Replace it and she's still going. More than a year ago.

That's why every mile or so, I check the engine coolant temperature

The driver didn’t notice the temp gauge pegged all the way to the right?😂 Some people are so oblivious to what is happening.

Assuming that manifold is made of pa66 nylon like majority of others it should have a melting point of around 260°c, being that hot I would imagine the castings are as soft as butter and the valve seats are all probably loose now if not ready to fall out. I have seen many nylon manifolds melted on a singular runner due to burnt inlet valves but never a whole plenum I can only imagine the pinging and detonation noise that was making before it finally died 😮

The moment Ray started to say "Hey you guys" I was hearing it in the voice of Sloth.

This is why we shouldn't make engine parts from plastic kids! However, it IS a good solid signal as to when cars became disposable.

I miss the days when you could overheat your engine, pull over, let it cool, duct tape your lower radiator hose, and drive it to get some water to put in it. Repeat daily because your broke ass never got around to fixing the issue. (Leaking rad or heater hose, leaking radiator, etc). 60s, 70s engines with cast iron heads just kept on going. Now I appreciate my higher HP modern aluminum head/plastic intake engines, I ain't complaining, more like just reminiscing. My son got a Subaru and I been trying to stress to him about overheating and those Subaru heads.

Same thing with Ford ecoboost oil pans.. they warp and leak. FordTechMakuloco did a vid on how to swap it back to the older metal one. Plastic just doesn’t work that well on engines… even the GM-3800 engines had problems with the lower plastic intake gaskets leaking until they changed them…

Bean counters are to be held responsible. Weight reduction causes failures. Cheap parts aren't quality.. and quality parts aren't cheap.

They do offer an aluminum replacement, it might last longer

Hey Ray, what is the temperature that that type of plastic will take, can't it handle like 400-500 degrees or something. You said it in the main video, i just can't remember.

I see this daily. The oil coolers fail and then it overheats. I don't know if that's your situation, but that is definitely what it looks like.

I got one ray why would only the plastic oil filter melt on a diesel? Nothing else melted just oil filter. oil smells like it's been on fire filters changed day before. I was woundering if dpf was in regen and filled oil with diesel and then ignited?
