I like how they don't treat Puss escaping through the sewer as a joke, but that he's so desperate to escape he doesn't question it. If they took a moment to have him reacting in disgust to it, it'd have killed the tone of the scene.

I love how death doesnt act like its just another day on the job for him, he seems genuinely angry and after puss’ life

Major props to the wolf's voice actor. The pitch, level of raspiness, the very soft accent, none of it is what you would have expected but it all works.

Dude when they showed Puss bleeding, I thought it was gonna be a fake out as a gag. I got chills when it’s revealed he was actually bleeding. Props to dreamworks for being brave enough to be dark

I love how at first Puss is like:
"Oh no... a fanboy!"
But then he thinks the wolf's a bounty hunter and he's like:
"Oh, thank god - he's just here to kill me"

The fact that DEATH shows up on Puss’s NINTH glass. Chills.

I love how Puss is very uncomfortable at first, but then when he realizes the wolf there to kill him, he's like "Oh, you're a bounty hunter! Okay, I can deal with that!"

That tiny smirk when he says "Corre, corre, gatito" is one of my favourite subtle bits of animation in the film. Barely noticeable but it adds so much to his characterisation

I love how every time Puss is scared, the animation changes. The lighting goes from bright and colored, to more realistic.

1:35 I love the subtle eye roll and grin he does before grabbing himself a drink, he's clearly seen so many people say the same things to him since the dawn of time and at this point it's just amusing to him how even at the very end people will try to fight and deny death itself.

"Everyone thinks they'll be the one to defeat me, but Noones escaped me yet" is such a raw line when you know he basically is a grim reaper. You can't technically escape death. You can only prolong its inevitability at best.

Even as an animated movie for children, that was a scary villain.

Finally Puss’ first encounter with Death with no cuts or audio editing! Please have scenes when they’re in a crystal cave and their final battle.

it's so good to see a Brazilian actor being recognized for his work, Wagner Moura's dubbing adds a lot to the character

I just want to mention that the "Slow! Sloppy! _SAD!"_ line is so good because it actually feels like the _protagonist_ is making the quip. It's Death reminding the audience that _HE_ is ultimately the main character here and it lands perfectly even before you realize which role he's playing.

Very cool how this scene goes contradicts what Puss sings in the opening.
“Who’s your favourite fearless hero?” Feels fear for the first time.
“Who’s never been touched by a blade?” Gets cut in the forehead

I love the way he looks when he tells Puss to pick up his sword at 3:16 and 3:20. His eyes just become wide and emotionless. Like an actual animal predator ready to bite down on it's helpless prey. This emotionless and empty feel to them really adds to the creep factor of Death.

When I was first watching this scene, I assumed the blood was some jam or something to lighten the mood. But I honestly love how this film has a lot of darker elements but is still family friendly, which is a lot harder than it seems (plus I'd argue this film actually earned it's PG rating as opposed to most other films now). Like, that whistle gives me chills just listening to it

Can we just appreciate how well done the introduction is for Death? And it's not like he comes out no where too, he was hinted at before Puss finally meets him. From him blending in with the crowd during Puss' fight with a giant, to him being in the corners with the numbers of Puss' past deaths, and to number of empty glasses of Leche Puss had. The whistling Death also does when he first shows up is also the icing on the cake to how terrifying the guy is.

What I absolutely love about death, is I read his "Pick it up" especially the first one, as "Pick it up, fight for your life - fight for THIS life." At this moment in the story, the Wolf hasn't really had a direct interaction with Puss, so this is less of a "so, why don't I do us both a favor and take this last one - NOW" confrontation, and more "Who are you really? An arrogant little legend? Or a cat who's learned the value of his last life?"

When Puss runs in fear, Death has confirmed his theory that Puss is still an arrogant little legend and thus pursues him for sport.

This is all just junk I'm writing while sipping my morning coffee, but I'm seriously considering writing an essay digging into every second Death's motivation changes and when. It's fascinating.
