I genuinely believe that Zuckerberg just wants to be liked and accepted by people but has just failed miserably at it, until recently. It feels more sincere because it is. He's gotten the nod from some high level MMA guys, which means he's not faking it. He's really putting the work in. I also think we are seeing a broader phenomenon that was predicted in the book the Sovereign Individual. It predicted that individual power would eventually be capable of challenging nation-state power and that's exactly what's happening. That's what we see with Elon Musk, Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and many others. Despite all the chaos and corruption, even billionaires are starting to give nation-states the middle finger and are choosing to be more of themselves. The whole Bill Gates type of imagery was boomer trash, kneeling to the state. Musk, Zuck, and others are rejecting that.
