FIFA U-17 WWC: FLAMINGOS SURRENDER LEAD AS THEY LOSE OPENING GAME TO GERMANY

Nigeria’s U-17 female team, the Flamingos, fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Germany’s U-17 female team in their opener at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Goa, India. The Nigerians surrendered a first-half lead to their German counterparts.
After playing two warm-up games against Galatasaray and Fenerbahce’s senior teams, the Flamingos commenced their campaign against one of football’s heavyweights in Goa.
Having weathered an early onslaught from the Germans, the Nigerian team found their footing in the clash and came closest to finding the net. Highly-rated forward Opeyemi Ajakaye retrieved the ball after pressing the defenders of the European side before firing a brilliant effort that was only stopped by an equally brilliant fingertip save onto the crossbar from the German goalkeeper.
The Flamingos went in front in the 30th minute as Miracle Usani drilled home a free-kick after captain Alvine Dah Zossu was fouled in front of the German penalty area. The full-back struck the ball low into the corner of the net to give her side the lead.
Germany found their equaliser after a well-worked short corner routine saw influential midfielder Alara Sehitler put a low cross into the cross which was met by Svea Stoldt following an unchecked dash across the box in the 49th minute.

PINNICK FORMALLY HANDS OVER TO GUSAU, CHARGES NEW BOARD TO SURPASS HIS ACHIEVEMENTS

Pinnick charged the management and staff to give Gusau and the new board maximum support as they gave him, he also reiterated he remains a part of the system and would be open to giving advice and suggestions whenever needed.

I thank you for your loyalty and support in the past eight years, and the encouragement and support of the Board that I worked with. It was an awesome experience all through and I give God the glory. Football is the winner. I ask for the forgiveness of all those that I might have offended one way or the other, and I crave your support for the new team.
“The General Secretary is a formidable individual, a great administrator and a good man at heart. He is a man capable of stabilizing the new Board. I have no doubt that alongside other members of Management and Staff, they will propel Nigeria Football to new heights.
“As a FIFA Council Member, I am technically in charge of 22 countries including Nigeria. I will always do my best to protect and project the interests of Nigeria at all times. My administration gave its all and raised funds for the programs of the NFF and the National Teams, and built discipline within the National Teams. However, I see the new administration surpassing whatever we achieved. The new President is a strategist who is humble, dynamic and innovative.”

OUR ISSUES ARE NOT TACTICAL, TEAM LACKS THE HEART - ALLEGRI

Manager of Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri has said Juventus do not have a technical or tactical issue, but the team lacks heart and passion.

Things went from bad to worse as Juventus fell to Maccabi Haifa in their 4th UEFA Champions League group game, which has left them with just 3 points in this season's competition.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, he said

“It is difficult to explain, we can only be silent, because it was not a good performance in terms of character,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.
“We must emerge from this situation and keep quiet. Tomorrow we return to Turin and we’ll remain at the Continassa training ground until the derby.
“It’s not a technical or tactical issue, this team lacks heart and passion. We play too much as individuals, we need to get back to being a team.”
