NASA's New Space Plane Launch Was Cancelled! Biggest Mistake...
It happened!
NASA just canceled Sierra Space's Dream Chaser after a series of recent Boeing Starliner troubles on the ISS.
This Means Dream Chaser officially dropped from the second launch of ULA's Vulcan Centaur rocket.
This alarms one more delay on the spaceplane.
But, is it the agonizing fall?
Are there any other chances for Dream Chaser?
What risks and opportunities does this change bring for both Sierra Space and ULA?
Find out everything in today's episode of Techmap.
NASA's New Space Plane Launch Was Cancelled! Biggest Mistake...
After being imposed financial penalties by the US Air Force in May, United Launch Alliance admitted that it should not hold the Vulcan Centaur rocket on the ground any further.
The payload of the second Vulcan Centaur mission will be changed from Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser to an inert payload and instrumentation. Thanks to that, the Vulcan flight's launch date is now being scheduled for September, 1 month earlier than the previous ULA plan.
In May, the firm raised confidence it would launch the spaceplane by October but Sierra then announced that that schedule is risky for Dream.
"Sierra Space has shared that they are making excellent progress with Dream Chaser but have schedule risk to fly by that time." ULA tweeted.
Additionally, ULA's other big customer, Amazon's Project Kuiper broadband constellation, also won't be ready to launch its first batch of operational satellites on a Vulcan rocket this fall. Because no other payloads could be ready for the September launch, a simulator is compulsory.

For Sierra Space, the move relieves schedule pressure to some degree and allows them time to focus on ensuring that no stones are left unturned in the lead-up to Dream Chaser’s maiden spaceflight.
Given that the Tenacity spacecraft that will fly the mission is also planned to be re-used, it’s critical for Sierra to have a successful launch and landing of the spacecraft.
According to the latest updates on Dream Chaser's progress, the spaceplane has been undergoing final testing and prelaunch processing at Nasa’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ahead of its launch scheduled for later this year.

Sierra Space should dump ULA and work with SpaceX, too many unknowns with ULA that’s part of Boeing.

I don't get it, NASA is messing around with various 'money-pits' while SpaceX is ready to fly, with a better product for less money.

Don't understand the thought process of these companies....SpaceX is proven and cheaper....put that space plane on a Falcon deal

Funny ULA is whiny about not getting revenue from the certification mission. Elon just crashes the first few, learns from it and eats the cost. Result? Incredibly reliable launch systems.

Blue Origin is good at expensive amusement park rides.

Yes but ULA is to far behind, they should ask space X for the ride till their rocket is proven. Pride comes before a fall.

Was hoping Dreamchaser would be a good alternative for the US. As a big SpaceX fan, we still needed another alternative space craft

I think that Sierra Space should have SpaceX launch one of there aircrafts only because they are the safes and I think they could launch at the drop of a hat.

Don't forget that Sierra Space is also tied in with Blue Origin for the Orbital Reef space station, this was done by NASA so that all these companies "play ball" with each other.

Yea. Hoping Boing stays away and better get extra correct sized o rings .no thrusters.

NASA needs to understand how to use the Dragon versus Dreamchaser. They each have different designs and, as such, different capabilities. I believe the Dreamchaser should be used for all ISS personal transferes back and forth to Earth. Use Dragon as a more capable platfore for longer duration missions and advanced cargo delivery

The military can afford to launch expensive top secret missions. Let them pay reliable carriers like SpaceX heavy falcon.

By the time they are ready, space station will be scrapped.

The space Shuttle was a complex, dangerous, and extremely expensive platform. Dream Chaser brings Shuttle technology to a safe, economical place.
LAUNCH It!!!

Clickbait

DreamChaser wasn’t canceled by NASA.

Due to testing timing, they missed their ride.
