Hellooooo everybody. Today we are breaking down and explaining Sunscreens! And all the key / buzz words linked to it. Chemical, Mineral, SPF, PA+

How long should you wear sunscreen, When should you apply sunscreen, how often should you apply sunscreen. Do people with darker skin have to wear sunscreen?

All these questions and more! Answered in todays video.

The majority of this information is from ‘The Skincare Bible’ by Dr Anjali Mahto (MBBCh BSc MRCP (Derm)). This book is amazing at not only the basic information of skincare and how it works, but also busting lots of skincare myths. Highly recommend reading it!

Few corrections here! There is an adequate enough protection difference between spf 15 and 30 (for example) for you to always opt for the higher spf factor.
Physical sunscreens do not act like a shield. They absorb UV rays turning it into heat. It’s still most probably the best option for those with sensitive skin.
When I say ‘you need less product’ when using a chemical sunscreen, I mean that the recommended amount of sunscreen should be enough to get even coverage over your whole face. I personally find with mineral sunscreen, it doesn’t spread as well so I often find myself using more to get an even coverage! But there are plenty of mineral sunscreens that feel just like chemical sunscreens!

It took skin cancer for my husband to start using a sunscreen. He's diligent about using it and is liking Neogen's sunscreen. Every year he has a skin check & has been cancer free for 6 years.

Everyone thinks I'm crazy for wearing sunscreen in the winter, or when the sun is not visible. It seems a lot of people only think about UVB! I care more about UVA, because I want to stay young as long as possible. I hate being in the sun too, and avoid it as much as I can. I use Cosrx in the winter, and when it's not so sunny, but when it's super hot and I'm sweating like a pig, I prefer the Hawaiian Tropic sensitive face sun lotion, spa 50, PA+++. Have you tried that one?

When it comes to chemical/combination sunscreens the best ones are asian (I.e Japanese and Korean). US chemical sunscreen filters are just not very photostable and they degrade very quickly. Which requires even more frequent reapplication. Where as the Asian sunscreens contain more robust and photostable filters. But fully mineral sunscreens are always very photostable and offer great protection but they are usually less cosmetically pleasant because of the heavy feeling and the white cast it tends to leave behind.

I like high spfs, no one applies enough so the higher SPF helps make up for the difference. My favorite in America is the Neutrogena hydroboost SPF 50 lotion gel. I always look funny reapplying but I don't want wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

I just found your channel and I'm LOVING all the information. I had no idea that the number on Sunscreen (i.e. 15/30/45) was an indication of how long you before you need to reapply. I think I was told when I was younger to reapply like every couple of hours, but this makes more sense to me when you broke it down like that. Thank you so much!

Can we also start debunking the myth that you can not get a tan if you wear an spf? Some of us loooove the sun and being out in the sunshine, I love the beach I love being outside. Sunshine makes me so happy! I have too many friends that don't wear spf bc they want a "dark, healthy tan". I do know that no tan is technically "healthy" per say, but I do believe that I look better with some color. I was at the beach this past week, wore spf 50 all over all day and reapplied every hour and a half. I am GOLDEN! No burns, not dry (bc I also moisturize A LOT all over), and I look good! I'm not leathery, I am a good color and I wore spf 50 ALL DAY and reapplied regularly.
YOU CAN TAN WITH SPF!!!'
If you're someone with oily skin and looking for a mineral spf to wear under makeup or one that isn't super oily I would suggest the Australian Gold tinted spf 50 for the face. It is the ONLY mattifying mineral sunscreen I have been able to find. Downsides: it does have dimethicone in it so if you're sensitive to that be wary. It also has aluminum in it, so if you're an all natural type of person I would keep that in mind.

This is the best explanation I've heard for SPF. One other person gave me a decent explanation, but this one explained a lot more, especially in regards to makeups and such that have that combined. Awesome video! Btw, I found about this from JKissa's Instagram feed. Glad I found it.

As Malaysian, we have tropical weather all year around and people here care less about sunscreen and so do I, due to genetic, I have combination skin and my face are darker, wrinklier, and textured than the rest of my body, it's makes me feel unconfident and low self-esteem.Just recently learn how to apply sunscreens and ur videos help me a lot to start doing a skin care routine, thank you very much🥰

I started using the Klairs soft airy UV essence and I think its one of the best things I have ever bought. Its super light and leaves zero white cast and soaks right in.

I absolutely love your videos because they are very informative without being boring. I have been curious about the neogen real fresh blueberry cleanser because it’s a foam but hydrating. I have not found a review on it and I would love to see one from you. Keep up the good work!
