⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:

2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!

2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.

2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.

2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!

What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.

Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

I live in northern Sweden and honestly it's not that bad during the winter, like yeah it's cold and you have to shovel snow but some people in these comments make it seem like its impossible when it really isn't. Honestly the windy rain/snow mixed winters in the UK are more annoying cause you get wet and cold, in Sweden you basically only get cold if you're not wearing enough clothes. "There's no bad weather, only bad clothes" is a common saying in Sweden and it's true :P

I live in the northern part of Sweden and yes the winter is dark and cold but it's not as bad as some comment's say. You can do a lot of stuff during the winter like skiing, ride snowmobile, ice fishing and so on. I think winter time is kind of relaxing and you can always go on vacation to charge you batteries if you have to. The summer in Sweden is the best in the world. The smells, the sound of birds and animals, lazy days in the summer heat. I think you did a great choice.

Northern Sweden is dark for 6 months per year. Added to that these houses are in the middle of the wilderness. Very nice summer in good weather, no doubt. Visit in the middle of a bleak November or February to see what it's REALLY like.

It just means that your actual dream house is still out there somewhere. You just have to find it. Chin up Beans! All is not lost.

On the few occasions that I’ve been in those home-buying scenarios, I have a ritual right before placing the first offer: I stop to do a hard dive on “counting my blessings” and being deeply grateful for my life in that current moment. I sit with that for a while and then say to myself: “I am about to ride an emotional rollercoaster that’s out of my control. Thankfully, if I lose out on the property, it won’t impact my current amazing life. Worst case…. I’m back to ‘square one’, where blessings abound and I still have my savings.” Things have a way of working out.

I'm a Realtor in the USA, what I tell my first time buyers is have patience, what is to be will be, the right house will turn up. Fall in love but not attached until contracts are signed. I wish you much luck and fun in the search.

I'm Swedish and also daydream about owning a little house or cabin in the woods. But then i usually come to my senses and remember the darkness, bitter cold, mosquitos, isolation and general costs of maintaining a house. I think i'll stay in my apartment and rent a cabin for vacation instead.

Guys, we went through exactly the same heartbreak when we were about to buy our house. On the day of exchange the seller called us asking for more money. That was 30 years ago and we found this house a week or so later. We have been very happy since. Don't worry. As we say in Brazil, nothing happens on the eve. Everything happens the day it's supposed to happen. Keep strong. You have everything you need right now.

Hi guys! So exciting for you. As an American, living in Norway with a cabin in Sweden a couple of things to land you firmly on the ground. Do check with a bank in Sweden how to get an ID number to open bank account. You will need an account to pay your utilities and annual taxes. Also weather and damp is a struggle. Electric can be expensive. Mosquitos! That’s it. It is so nice in the summer months to be outside all day and just enjoying the space and friendly Swedes

I started watching van-life videos during the pandemic, and 95 percent of them have purchased or built a home since then.

For me, the house is just one part of the equation. The surrounding community, towns, cities / infrastructure as well as climate etc. would be just as important or even more important to me than the house itself. I would take a step back and ponder all these questions before a wild goose chase of a cheap house with a nice view...

The house you put an offer on, was sold for 925K ( 85K$/70K£) so 33% up from asking price. Very common for houses here to sell for double the asking price. 💙💙💛💛

I am going to share a secret with you. I am 74 years old. There have been so many times in my life where things seemingly went wrong, I didn't get my heart's desire, things seemed unfair or even punishment from God. But now as I look back I can honestly say I wouldn't change any of them because each one was necessary to lead me to where I was supposed to be. Trust me when I tell you this worked out as it needed to happen to get you where you need to go. It may take 5 years or 15 years to understand but you will understand someday and be so relieved. I admire your positive attitudes..

22 years ago when I was looking at houses, I found a house & was excited my bid was accepted. However, during the home inspection, they found mold in the foundation where it met wood. I am allergic to mold, so that was a no go. I kept looking & found my house! It was even better than the first one. I still live in that house. So, have patience, what’s meant to be will turn out. Good luck Beans!

This is a good place to live, I know, I live not that far from where you zoomed in on the map. People sound a bit negative in the comments. The winters are long, they are also beautiful and the stars are everywhere on clear nights. There is a great sense of freedom with all the space around you, the nature, wildlife, lakes and mountains. The houses are built for the cold, Swedish homes are usually warm inside, the coldest I ever been iinside a house were the winters I spent in Ireland. The community up here is great, good neighbours are important. Mosquitoes aren't really an issue as long as there is a bit of open land around the house so there can be a bit of a breeze. I love this place on Earth. ❤

That area on the map you zoomed in to is about a 10 hour journey from Stockholm. I thought you said 4 hours max would be good. I have driven from Stockholm to Mora, much further south, with young kids - it was a long way and then there were huge mozzies to contend with. Flights not cheap either, just booking today for August to Stockholm. I think you need to visit the area in mid summer and mid winter before you decide.
