This was so helpful and thank you so much. I watched your video on the NH adoption and commented there. Then watched this video and now think one of the symbols in my mustangs freezebrand was interpreted as a 9 rather than a 2, making the location “97”. But, I’m still unclear why the BLM would issue a title with an incorrect number when it’s so obvious it can’t be right.

ironically, i was able to apply my newfound knowledge of the BLM alpha angle code last week during a therapy session with a group of kids. one of the horses in our program is a BLM mustang and the instructor (who i was assisting) was explaining that the mare was a gentled mustang. i pointed out the tattoo, and one of the kids asked what it "spelled". the instructor said she didn't know anything about the tattoo. i let them know that each mark represents a number, depending on the mark's position, but i couldn't remember the positions off the top of my head, so i couldn't translate :)
