This talk by Federico Fabbrini - The War in Ukraine and the Future of European Integration: The Case for an Accession and Revision Treaty - took place at the Pardee School of Global Studies on Tuesday, October, 17, 2023. Fabbrini examines the impact of the war in Ukraine on the integration process, arguing that the EU is indeed at a turning point. Using the preamble to the US Constitution as a reference point, he outlines the structural shortcomings the EU needs to address as it prepares to enlarge. Vivien Schmidt, Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at Boston University, moderated the discussion.

Federico Fabbrini is Full Professor of European Law at the School of Law & Government of Dublin City University (DCU), where he is the Director of the Law Research Centre. He is also the founding director of the DCU Brexit Institute, where he is the Principal Investigator of both the EU-funded Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE, the EU-funded Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence REBUILD and the EU-funded Jean Monnet Module Post-Brexit Law. He is also involved as a WP-PI in the Horizon Europe project REGROUP.

This event took place as part the Center for the Study of Europe’s ”Europe in the World” lecture series, an initiative of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Security and Defense, Kaija Schilde. The aim of the series, supported by the European Union**, is to prompt critical reflection by a larger public on human and regional security informed by cross-national experiences and a variety of disciplinary lenses as well as to introduce or emphasize EU perspectives into ongoing debates around security integration and global challenges.

**Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the Erasmus+ Programme. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
