GitHub Codespaces

What happens when you put VSCode in the Cloud? You get GitHub Codespaces. An entirely Cloud-based coding environment.

I got early access to GitHub Codespaces and figured it'd be fun to share what it looks like!

NOTE: I messed up my billing calculation. It should only be $9.20 a month! I did too much multiplication!

shouldn't that be 4h/d * 7d/w * 4w/m = $9.2 ??

If these things are true-
1. there is no lag while editing code
2. multi-repo setup can be automated (I hope mono-repo work right now?)
3. Its cheaper to pay for codespaces then buy Macbook Pro for all engineers

then companies can skimp on high-quality laptops and just pay for Codespaces. SInce project setup is automatic it would be easier to onboard new people since Docker for local development on Mac is terrible.

I read somewhere at Facebook, people don't setup projects locally, instead they SSH into a cloud instance. This will be just like that.

My company has python code, vue code, angular code, c code, rust code, golang code... To get your computer setup for ALL of them, would be a bare. PLUS we are running some projects in python3.6 and others in 3.8. We use docker to handle it atm, but this is just one step above that.

I can see a whole team of devs discussing a feature at a company meeting and making changes on the fly in the browser and showing the results in a communal setting type of scenario ... Or maybe if you forgot your PC somewhere and want to make quick edits in the cloud?
