The top 10 tank mates for Geophagus tapajos. Geophagus redhead tapajos are one of the best cichlids due to their sand sifting behavior, bright colors and temperament. Since they are relatively peaceful for a cichlid, the tank mate options go from other American cichlids, to plecos, to some tetras and barbs. For more information on the Geophagus tapajos, check out the two other videos we've done on them below:

Love the Geos. Starting a new 125g and plan on keeping the red head tapajos with electric blue acaras and Severums. thanks in part to your 180G set up. Good inspiration!

Love this list for the ideas, thank you! Have a Svenii, blood parrot and clown loach right now, and have been wondering what I should add. I want to keep the tank stop low, but still think one or two more fish to use the middle of the tank more. Thinking bristlenose pleco for the algae and now thinking either an acarra or severum! I have to admit, I'm leaning towards the carry right now since it's 55g!

I came for the geo information but found your severum info cool too. I have a gold in with 3 large Oscar’s, a large pleco and an upside down squeaker cat. The gold rules the roost. Lol

Will definitely go with Geos and severums in my next tank. I would also love to keep an oscar at some point. The oscar seems to work well in your 180, but could perhaps be a bit risky with the geos? Maybe if I give the geos a head-start and add the oscar later?

Great video as always. Love your channel!

I have a firemouth with my tapajos and a school of fifteen Cochu Blue Tetras. It's been an enjoyable combination to watch with no problems getting along.

Just purchased one of these. I was a bit wary as I have hard water and a higher pH in my CA tank (7.8ph).
However, I needn't have worried. It seems to have adapted very well. It schools with my rainbow cichlids. It is a really beautiful fish and is a great 'clean up' option for a larger tank.
