I just finished a private security training course in Canada. YOU CANNOT grab someone's phone. That's a breach of the code for escalation. There was no threat. No reason to go hands on.

I had the same thing happen in a government office in Canada by a security guard. Will be suing them. The police still haven't responded with a police report. It's been 6+ weeks.
