The lack of spacing in the necklace is a pretty obvious sign that those aren't real pearls. Also, real pearls, especially naturally occurring, will be heavier.

A strand of fake pearls tend to have the exact same shape and they have this perfectly even and super shiny appearance all over. The real pearls, being real, are rarely perfect and each is slightly different from another, and they have more of a subtle sheen instead of a shiny glare. The weight of most fake pearls are also quite different from real ones, in that they are either made from plastic / resin and too light, or made from glass and just too heavy. The drill holes on fake pearls often look a bit flat due to the manufacturing process they go through, and the edges tend to be a little rough. Real pearls would be able to handle professional drilling better so the drill holes can be smaller and smoother. Some faux pearls are made using a technique that compresses real pearl dust and glueing agents into spherical shapes, like how composite stone bench tops are made for the kitchen and bathrooms, and if they are made well these would be the closest thing to real pearls :)
