I also find a lot of inspiration looking through sewing books, both contemporary and vintage, and re-watching movies that I love the clothes in.

It's taken me 2 years of my sewing journey to recognise what used to look good in my 20s no longer suits me due to my changing shape. I do follow a few style gurus on youtube which has helped and hope makes this year don't end up in the bin 😮. Fab tips, really like the try on videos for inspiration 😊

Great vlog, I am currently in an overwhelmed state of paralysis with my making, one thing I have come to realise over many years is what suits me, like you, this doesn’t mean I do not think about the things I see, mainly oversized garments are a no no for me, My mother a seamstress always drummed in the importance of shoulder fitting, “the coat hanger for your body “ and she was right, get the shoulder right and things will follow, I always love wide legged trousers on other people, I am 5’7” so in theory I should be able to wear them, but some how I never think they suit me, but how I love them. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Great information! I love the red coat on you! Itch-to-stitch has a similar dressy coat pattern. Lots of work, but well worth it. I like the shirt dress on you too. I can see it in a bright color on you. Thank you for your videos!

The red coat looks SO good on you. Definitely your colour! I also thought you looked great in the black and white waistcoat ensemble - to me it was businesslike and had such high impact. Great vlog - and not just for beginners. Thank you. Lynne😊

Love this style of vlog, it really helps to focus your and our minds when you have a million creative ideas swirling round and very similar to a process I now practice with sewing. I lengthened the Heather blazer into a long coat, I have yet to make a blazer but it's on my list! 😊

The order of your process makes perfect sense. Loved the red coat too.

Excellent vlog Bec, made so much sense. Fairly new to social media and hashtag searches, but I have been trying some RTW to get an idea of what dress styles suit me and found a dress I thought wouldn’t work actually did and now planning a make. I do stare at my stash to try to come up with plans for pieces, sometimes it works and other times end up making a different pattern!

I’d add in going through your pattern stash too. I have loads of patterns I’ve picked up over the years so often forget what I’ve got, or I forget the alternative views that never interested me before but match my style better now. For example, now that the wide leg trouser trend is in, I went through my stash and found a couple of patterns I’d bought for the top part actually include wide leg trousers too 😊

I was just about to comment on my favourite (then you beat me to it) saying how the Pink cocoon coat looked dreadful on you, but that red coat looked amazing. It was so nice and suited you so so much.

Thank you so much - this is sooo useful! :-) From the looks of it, we're about similar shape, even if I'm a bit taller. The shoulder adjustment was a game changer for me as well. That red coat really looks fantastic on you, but I really liked the light pink one too. Again; thank you for a great video and for making content that is both relatable and interesting.

Each fall I try on about 40 pairs of pants and then go home empty handed. Long and big in the butt short in the legs... but at a US 10, 5'6", ? that shouldn't be so hard to find a pair of pants...

I also try on the new shapes in the stores to see what is flattering after I see patterns that I like. Many do NOT work, and I saved myself a lot of time and grief, and being on a tight budget, saved money too! Congrats on buying the red coat, it looked great, and a good RTW is often an excellent pick me up :)
