As someone who bought HOI4 a while back on a whim, but didn't bother buying any of the DLC, it's _really_ gratifying to see ISP "learn" the same things I've learned watching his videos. "Oh, I guess the spy thing is DLC." "Oh, I guess fancy tanks are DLC." Etc.

Pretty sure the puppet system was added initially in Together for Victory, then expanded with Waking the Tiger. Thus without either, you can't release nations as puppets

The releasing puppets part was part of TFV. There also is a free DLC given to everybody for giving the non-shadowed German portraits. I guess it's like that to give people the option of removing more no-no symbolism.

I have no dlc either, and watching ISP play without dlc's and get shocked at all the missing features feels like a politician going to a local shop and inspecting the prices for publicity lmao

I stopped playing actively shortly after Waking the Tiger, so I have no DLC after that. Returning for No Step Back not buying anything to catch up was an interesting experience.

Spies and garrisons were part of La Resistance, so I'm wondering what would happen with the dlc focus trees that include stuff for that specifically like Italy, Switzerland, and Bulgaria. Do you think that they have these annoying 70 day focuses blocking important parts of the tree that just give them nothing or do you think that Pdx gave them, just in case you were one of the few """people""" who owned newer dlcs without some of the older ones, a different bonus/boost?

The missing action tiles are like blank buttons in a car, shaming you for choosing the base model.

Got all the DLC’s and can confirm they’re 100% worth it. Tried playing without my DLCs and honestly the game was so boring for me with all the ahistorical paths and features just missing.

I can understand the navy, tanks, airplanes, focuses, and even the spies

But the attack orders and realese as puppet and annex puppets? That's essential gameplay features

I wish more of these LTS games would do some sort of thing where old DLCs got included into the base game as new ones came out.

I get it, less money for the company, but after a time it starts getting out of control. The DLCs together cost over triple the price of the base game, and I can't bring myself to spend that much on a game I only play casually. Yet the DLCs contain a bunch of stuff that most would consider 'core', and it's a bit crazy they're still paywalled even if they were initially added 5 years ago.

hearing the mouse noise and seeing the cursor move around 13:42 is viscerally hilarious to me for unknown reasons, you can tell ISP is wringing out as much dopamine out of this as possible.

I honestly prefer not having the tank and plane designer. Ship designer is fun since you only get a few capital ships per game and dont really need a navy against the AI. But the others are just tedious and i prefer just researching and building that stuff.

I totally forgot equipment conversion is a DLC feature, I noticed in your industry tree that those 2 techs are gone (not that I've ever researched them anyways lol)
