Baby Bella started sleeping through the night by 6 weeks old through the amazing, yet SIMPLE art of sleep training! Some say it works: others beg to differ. All we know is, THIS method WORKED FOR US! Who says parents of infants have to be zombies?! We STILL love our sleep, and having our first baby did not change that!
After reading some of the top sleep training books, such as On Becoming Babywise and The Baby Sleep Solution, we decided on a simple method that is NOT the "cry it out" method, fyi. It's not rocket science, nor does it have to be painful, but there are fundamental principles that the top books share.
Books:
-Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize
-On Becoming Babywise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep by Robert Bucknam, M.D. and Gary Ezzo
-The Baby Sleep Solution: A Proven Program to Teach Your Baby to Sleep Twelve Hours a Night by Suzy Giordano and Lisa Abidin
-Moms on Call (0-6 Months) by Jennifer Walker and Laura Hunter
REQUIREMENTS: Based on our research, babies should be about 9 lbs or 4 months before sleeping 12 hours straight with no feedings. Our baby was 8.7lbs at birth, so she was 9 lbs by 6 weeks. We still did “dream feeds” (feeding her in the dark without fully waking her right before our bedtime) in the first few months.
6 Weeks: 6-8 hours (SWADDLING UNTIL 3 MONTHS IS A MUST!!!) If he/she can roll over before 3 months, drop the swaddle immediately, though.
8 Weeks: 12+ hours (with “dream feeds”)
4 Months: 12+ hours with no "dream feed" before you go to bed
RESOURCES!!! (This is what we use. Hope it helps!)
