Did you know your body can make its own sugar? It's true! This process is called gluconeogenesis, and it's pretty amazing.

Imagine you haven't eaten in a while. Your body still needs sugar for energy, specially your brain. So what does it do? It starts its own sugar factory!

Your liver is the star of the show here. It takes substrate that aren't sugar - like certain amino acids from proteins, Lactate and Glycerol - and turns them into glucose.

This process is super important. It keeps your blood sugar levels steady when you're not eating, like overnight or if you're fasting.
