NATO, 러 핵위협에 "심각한 후과" 거듭 경고
The head of NATO is warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin would be crossing a “very important line” if he ordered the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
Lee Seung-jae has more.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg warned Thursday,… that Russian President Vladimir Putin would be crossing a “very important line”,… if he were to order the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
However,… when asked if NATO would opt to use its own nuclear weapons,… Stoltenberg said the chances of that happening are slim.
"Circumstances in which NATO might have to use nuclear weapons are extremely remote. Russia's nuclear rhetoric is dangerous, reckless and they know that if they use a nuclear weapon against Ukraine, it will have severe consequences and they also know that a nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought."
The comments also come after Putin had previously threatened the use of nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile,… in further evidence that Russia is losing grip on one of the regions it claimed to have annexed,… Moscow announced it will be evacuating residents of Kherson,… as Ukrainian forces continue to advance.
The announcement comes as the Russian-installed governor of Kherson,... publicly requested Moscow’s help in evacuating residents to safer regions of Russia.
"The targets that the missiles hit are hotels, residential houses, markets - where there are lots of civilians. Because of this the Kherson administration has decided to organize opportunities for Kherson families to travel to other regions of Russia for leisure and study."
Russia’s TASS news agency reported that the first group of civilians fleeing Kherson is expected to arrive in Russia’s Rostov region as soon as Friday.
