There are a lot of interesting applications for this, because it's so easy to set up, you can get ~4% on the tree fairly easily, 3% on a shield, and run a purity then you'll be well on your way to 90% all ele res.

here comes the funniest part: if you for example take lightning coil (50% phys to lightning) and put other phys to elemental conversions on your gear (helmet) and or have purity of elements with a watchers eye that also makes it convert phys to elemental (up to 15% each, fire, lightning, cold, totaling 45% if all 3 effects are available!!!)
you can easily convert 100% phys damage into elemental, which, when capped @ 90%, is basically making you damage capped @90% for all but chaos.
probably also fun with CI when chaos immune.

Just in case it's not clear (and it wasn't to me initially): the jewel gives "max. res cap" for each elemental resistance as your highest max. res cap. i.e. get to 90 max. res. cap for fire and you'll have 90 max res. cap for cold and lightening too. But ... you still /actually/ have to get the resistances on your gear (and with auras) to get to 90/90/90, and the jewel gives -70 to each res. to make that even harder. You're going to have to sacrifice quite a lot of options to make that happen .. so IMHO the gem isn't OP.

I experimented a lot with my VLS Berserker to make it less squishy and I came up with this:
-Brass dome and a bunch of skills on tree
-Some max res on shield
-Spell suppression on gear and one passive cluster (100%/53% reduce)
-Armor / Determination setup, 90% phys reduction, mitigate 10k hit by half (50k armor)
-Life and positive chaos res. I have 5k life and 27% chaos res (67% against damage over time - pantheon power)

This setup covers all damage sources and types, I don't cap chaos res but having positive res is enough to avoid chaos / poison oneshots.
I might not have as much DPS as other VLS Berserkers but it's good enough. Currenly about 30 ex invested, next big upgrade is the ascendancy jewel ofc. And after that - HH. I self crafted most of my gear at Rog. Ran Rog logbooks, did expedition scarabs etc. Rog can craft you great items quite often. If you search for such item on POE trade it often comes up at sth like 5-10 ex, where your Rog crafts it for free. This is especially useful if you want off-meta affixes such as spell suppression + chaos res. Very few items like that on sale.

This is enough to do juiced t16 maps and not die in them.
The 'jewel tax' is sadly very much a thing and the ascendancy jewel pair is going to be mandatory in most builds. 5th ascendancy notable is just too much to forfeit.
I wish they'd add a pinnacle atlas boss that would simply give me 2 passive skill points instead of another overpowered jewel.

Something to add, the nebulis sceptre gets scaled pretty easy for spellcasters with some syntetized mods

it's pretty op imo, currently a t1 suffix is worth +3% max res but this gives you like 30% for 4 qualitied t1 res.

I am thinking about pushing it into my transendance Gen cry, Phys taken as ele build. The defence I would get are huge, absolutely enormous, but I do want to keep my damage relatively high.

play absolution with doryani, ventor's gamble + malachai's artific, and aegis auora is so much fun, the only annoying thing about the build is at the beginning of the boss fight or a new phase you don't get your minions, and it has very bad clear, but the defensive layers, the single target damage using uniques, and you not having to worry about lightning resistance, make it much easier to run that said uniques with the jewel

Thinking of using it on a poison blade vortex pathfiinder. Still trying to wrap my head around whether it has positive or negative synergy with pathfinder's take less elemental damage.

@Tenkiei - just a quick update on running the hybrid Ele Hit + Chain in the self cast over the Explosive Arrows - at about map level 12 is the break point. Up to that point, Ele Hit clears the white pack seamlessly and feels GREAT. But then it just peters out and doesn't have the power you want moving foward. So if you were running lower to mid-level maps for currency or leveling I'd 100% recommend the Ele Hit hybrid. But when you get toward that end game content you're going to want to move back to dual EA setups. On the Ele Hit I was running it in a Quill Rain with Ele Hit/Trinity/GMP/Chain/Ele Damage with Attacks/Inspiration.

So with Melding we only have to bring 1 resist up to the desired resist cap correct? The others will match whichever is highest. I just want to be REALLY clear before I blow 4x on this..

I am using this to scale with doryani's + replica dreamfeathers and stack massive amounts of armour. I never had a character so tanky and I love it.
