This simple video has explained so much to a numpty like me. I have a similar device on our system which was installed probably 30 years ago and I have no idea what it was, neither did the so called plumber who has just changed two radiators and now left me without hot water or heat because the system will not refill, and its -3 outside today. Thank you so much for the explanation, not at least I can try and check the feed from the header tank myself. Cheers

Your vids are really helpful and informative I'm currently in college doing my second year on plumbing and it's great to see your vids to help with more information and expand my knowledge in the trade

Ideal used to have a diagram of one of these in the boiler instructions. It was to have the F&E tank located just above the boiler. Without one you need the F&E quite a way above them. It will work with any vented boiler. I used one as combined heat & vent pipe - that is a 22mm pipe off the top into the bottom of the F&E tank - the boiler needs a high level temperature cut out, which most have these days.

I had my aerator removed.... clogged up and stopped the water from moving altogether. My plumber fitted a piped H section instead with a small air release valve built in. Works a treat & my rads are hotter than they've been for years...

Great Video De Airation 😅
I Prefere the word Air Divider 👍
Or Tower Air separator 👍

Note: The "expansion pipe" is the pipe coming from the expansion tank that feeds the system, nearly all water being pushed out of a system by expansion flows up this pipe, it does not flow up the pipe that vents air out of the system, this pipe is Known as the "vent pipe".

Do I NEED a de-aerator, something like a Spirovent RV2, on my Combi Boiler..?
Having a new ATAG on an old system. 12 Rads.. (After a good flush of course!)
Is there anything similar to the RV2 but cheaper? It’s nearly a £100..!!
Thankyou!

Hi James, I have a question or two if you don`t mind answering please,
I am building a copper air condensing tubing system on a wall to be used from my 160 psi air compressor.I will be using a flexi rubber compressor air hose in between the compressor to the copper pipe system to have no vibration between the two.the idea is to condense the hot air that the compressor produces and traveling through the copper pipe it will condense to cold air at the end,
Then I will use a catch pipe to drain of the water so it does not enter my tool.
My questions are,
Question 1) Do we have a lettering system K-L-AND M on our copper pipe like America do to illustrate the different thickness off the copper pipe wall,
Question 2)If we do Have a system over here what is the system we go by.
Question 3) would I braise it or solder it, I know that Braising will anneal the copper and make it softer near the braised joint, would this cause a problem to the coppers psi strength
I will want to use 28mm and place a reducer to drop the psi to 125 for the tools I use,

Could you explain the need and position for fitting an air admittance valve. Cheers

Just had a new pump fitted, since then when the pump is on speed 2 or 1 water is pushed back up the vent into the header tank. Would this be a blocked air vent. When I put the new pump on auto which reduces the speed it doesn't do it.

Great video James! Would be great to get back to more instruction videos. Perhaps you can get your network of plumbers to help out? You can't do it all, or can you? Lol 😁 👍

If you removed one would you just connect the pipes up and stick an auto air vent there? Obviously keeping the vent open.

what stops the pump from sucking air down the air vent pipe?
