Wedding in the Middle of the Desert? | Part 1 of 4

Siwa is an oasis 50 km from the border of Libya and sits 19m below sea level. The bountiful supplies of fresh water below the sand provide for the plentiful amount of life that exists there. Siwa is most famous for being home to the Oracle of Ammun, a priest who gained infamy in ancient times for accurately predicting a few major events. After Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, he paid a visit with Cleopatra, and was told he was the sun of Ammun, deeming him a God. He died at the age of 32, due to an illness.

Because of its geographic isolation, the culture and language in Siwa is distinct from Egypt. I was invited to attend a 3 day wedding. Egyptians remarked how lucky I was to receive such an invitation. Follow along to discover more about this magical place!
