Now we know why Justin Timberlake sings it that way lol

so that's why he says it like that.

This is the exact same reason we have "hit me baby one more time." Max Martin thought he was saying the equivalent of "hit me up". And, in fact, TLC passed on the song specifically due to the connotation of "hit me".

Honestly, sometimes doing stuff "wrong" just fully makes it memorable. There are so many songs with a weird pronunciation or a weird wording in the chorus that makes it iconic and stick in your head.

Best part of the end of April is “it’s gonna be May”

Me in Swedish is "mej" and it's pronounced more like "may". It's possible the producers wanted the Swedish version of "me" lol

I was told by an opera singer that many songs pronounce ‘me’ more like ‘may’ as it naturally comes out a bit lower and, therefore, is easier to sing. As soon as you know this, you’ll start to hear it being used everywhere

funny thing tho, in the few vocal lessons I took, I was taught to sing the 'e' vowel as an 'ae' because it opens up your throat and resonates better. So 'may' instead of 'me' is technically the way to sing it at least according to my teacher haha

Yall really expect people to stay looking like they did when they were in their 20's is hilarious to me. People so used to seeing people who get work done they forget what it looks like to actually age.

When I was a kid, I thought it was weird that a lot of singers pronounced "baby" as bay-beh

Another lesson in why writers and songwriters matter. 👏 The American pop train of the 1990s wouldn’t have been the same without them.

This was a thing that most late 90s pop stars were instructed to do by executives. You also hear it in Candy by Mandy Moore, in the line "So, baby come to may".

This is very old news, we always knew this… lol. Britney says “may” in a lot of her songs on the Oops I Did It Again album, most notably in What U See (Is What U Get) and Don’t Go Knockin’ On My Door. It was Max Martin’s signature. He liked the way it hit with the beat of the songs better. Backstreet did it as well.
