Dang, I was super nervous to make mine, until I watched some tutorials and fiddled with one in a creative test world. After some poking and prodding, I realize it's actually quite simple: once it's activated, all you need to do is make sure that the power you're putting in is enough to keep the Field Strength above 1% (higher percentage if you want the buffer), and that the power you're taking out isn't enough to push the temperature beyond 8000. I started mine by inputting 140, 000 RF/t while outputting 500, 000. Assuming you have sufficient backlogged power to start the sucker up, these are safe numbers to let it settle at. Once your output (how much power you're extracting from the flux gate connected to the Stabilizer) matches the Generation Rate, the temperature will decrease, and the Field Strength will increase. If you're Field Strength is dropping and you're worried it'll go too low, add a little bit to the input (the flux gate connected to the Injector). If your Field Strength is too high, or the temperature is too low, then increase the amount of power you're pulling from it (typically, it's smarter/safer to make this adjustment by pulling more power from it rather than lowering the input, as lowering the input will only make the Field Strength drop, while increasing the output increases the temperature. This will still lower your Field Strength, but at a significantly lower rate). BE PATIENT. Wait for the temperature to start decreasing again before adjusting.

In conclusion, my second sentence once again:
All you need to do is make sure that the power you're putting in is enough to keep the Field Strength above 1% (higher percentage if you want more than a 1% buffer, which I recommend, just to be safe lol), and that the power you're taking out isn't enough to push the temperature beyond 8000.

Message me if you have any questions; I think I've got a pretty good grasp of how these guys work, and I understand the hesitation to build it, but once you've got one stable, it's such a satisfying achievement! And, my goodness, does it crank out some power. As of this moment, I'm extracting 590, 000 RF/t, I'm inputting 140, 000 RF/t, Temperature is at about 7, 900 (when the temp stops rising here I will increase my output to 595, 000 RF/t) Field Strength is just under 14%, Energy Saturation is about 12%, and my Fuel Conversion level is at 1.82% (I'm using 8 blocks of Awakened Draconium).

I like the tutorial and design is really overly safe. But What it lacks is basic explanation on how the reactor works. The longer you keep your reactor running, the more energy you can take out of it, with the same amount of input.

After only 7-8 hours of waiting, I am currently only imputing 200k, and its outputting 700k. This is a good reactor that theoretically can output infinite amount of power, it just takes a lot of time of waiting for it to stabilize, and once its stable, you can keep increasing the output bit by bit.

It is very easy to see when your reactor is stable. Once your Temperature starts to go down, and Saturation to go up, that means its stable, and that means you can safely increase the output. What I do, is wait until temperature drops to around 6000 and saturation is above 20%, then I increase the output by 50k-100k and monitor it a bit (in case of overheating). Once I see that it stabilized, then I leave it again to cool off and repeat.

A few tips to general draconic reactor design : when the conversion rate goes up, the maximum temperature of the core decreases, which leads to more output that can be drawn from the reactor core without overheating. My experiments with it (and I tested it with creative energy cells up to 90% conversion level) lead to almost 1 million rf per tick of energy output. It depends on the use case, if you just need a steady energy source running it on a constant temperature is the best way to do it, but if you like in my case need alot of energy at once, burning it right below 9000 degrees increases the conversion rate exponentially. That also means that alot of fuel is wasted in the process, but it allows you to draw way more energy from the core when the total amount of fuel decreased by a few percent.

This method however needs at least 2 to 3 test runs before you can apply it under real conditions, when the core temperature exceeds 9000 degrees it will get out of controll and just detonate. You need to get a feeling for how much energy you can draw from it at any given point and how much energy the containment field needs.

With 300.000 rf per tick in the containment field you can get at least 700.000 rf per tick from the core. My most stable design runs on 150.000 for the field and 500.000 from the core at the lowest conversion rate. The containment field doesn't need to have more then 15% charge, everything else is wasted energy. I wouldn't suggest amounts below 15%, since the core can fluctuate while converting fuel, which can lead sometimes to malfunctions.

Old video but was a helpful buikd. Reactor was running stable.

It did explode but... uh... that happens when you intentionally remove key pieces of it because you WANT it to explode.

luckily I was using a RFtools dimension to build it in. so I just yoinked right outta there when it blew up

leaves a big hole in my world as soon as i route the power somewhere, but overall a good tutorial! thanks for the tips! hopefully i can rebuild my base and gather all my belongings soon and try this tutorial again!

Built perfect but when I deactivated it, it said reactors gonna blow run.I was satisfied cuz i had backup so I tried to make it normal but it said there is no way so I ran from my house and caught bus to a place 10 miles away.Then there was an explosion, A huge one.People died.Fire spread.I was saved by it but got injured.I saw deadbodies of people lied everywhere.Thanks god I had draconic armor.I then went to my house.My laptop was ash!I used pulverizer that I had in my inventory to turn that ash in laptop.Then I copied and pasted backup and ran minecraft.A huge blackhole opened in my city and pulled everything in even I was pulled in.I went out of conciousness and when I was awakened I saw myself with my hand on my mouse ready to click and deactivate reactor.I pulled my hand and got up.Then I commanded:[/kill @e[type=laptop] and boom.Now I dont have laptop.I sacrified it for sake of humanity.Now I badly need a laptop.That was the only way to use internet and minecraft.Plz help!!!

To those people whose reactor meltdown after you tried to shut it down, supply the input flux gate (the one connected to the energy injector) with an external supply of power with the same number as the flux gate (224, 000rf/t). The reason why yours is exploding when shutting down is because the reactor is not generating enough power to supply the containment field (Reactor output < Shield Input requirements).

Thank you for the video, that's exactly what I was looking for! Built and tested the reactor. Runs decently so far. Nevertheless, I have a question: How much energy (in RF) can I lose at most before the force field becomes unstable? I mean, a permanent load. Plan to supply a complete factory with Applied Energistics, Rfrools Dimensions and Mecanism Mod. A few others are also there, but unfortunately I don't have their names in mind right now. 😅Oh yes, a friend of mine raised it a little bigger, he can approx. Fill 50 blocks of drakonium as fuel... The start took almost 45 minutes.😅
