You should make the hole on the side near the top of the trash bin in case the trash bag rips, you won't get all those trash liquids all over your floor.

Here’s a tip from a man who has worked in facilities maintenance for over a decade.

Do not put your bags in the bottom of the can like he did. The first time something punctures the bag, you’re going to have a liquid mess in the bottom of the can, and now your bags are all soiled and gross. Put an extra one through the handle on the can if it had one.

Also, don’t put a hole in your garbage can for the same exact reason unless your trash is only dry goods.

I’m not getting out the vacuum every time I change the trash bag. All you have to do is lift one of the corners of the bag and it straightens itself out.

To avoid the air blocking the bag, I just wrap the bag around only 3 sides of the can, and leave one little corner open, and then push the bag down manually. It comes out that little corner, and then I wrap the last corner around the can. Works fine :)

That last one leaving the bag attached to the roll is one of my biggest pet peeves. That shit pisses me off to no end.

Regarding the first tip, i find that fluffing the bag open and trapping the air inside before putting it in works really well. Basically filling it with air like a big balloon, so then it is full of air inside the bag instead of around the bag in the can.

Kinda already learned these tricks being a custodian, here’s a lazy version;

*For bag size maximization, just use ya thumb to stretch out the bag and make a hole, you don’t need to use a vacuum, weight of stuff will do that job (or you can use a similar sized can, and stuff it inside to push the air out)

*For making the bags smell nice, either get scented bags or be a man and clean the dang can; some soap water, strong paper towel/fresh sponge, some elbow grease should do the trick. Note; using the same scent, you’ll eventually go nose blind so you’ll just be paying to not smell it (but just take the cheap route and clean it)

*The rest of the tricks are 100% what we used to do and are valid

Just fill the bag with air beforehand and hold it closed so when you put the bag in the can, the air in the can will be pushed out

Or just push one trash can in front with one hand and with the other hand pull it from behind you... Super simple 😂

First one: stick a finger in one edge while pushing the bag in to remove the air.
Second one: don't, you're gonna hurt yourself when it tips sideways.

For the first one, all you need to do is pull back a spot on the top of the bag, breaking the seal, and push down on the side of the bag with your hand (i usually just stick my whole leg in the can to get really down in there) to push out the air. If you put a hole in the bottom of the can, in the case that the bag rips, your floor is now covered in trash juice. You can also pull back the bag when stuff is in it, and the trsh inside of it will help to push the air out as well.

You can also just undo one corner once the bags on. Let the air out then put the corner back around the bin

I work at a truck stop (don't ever do that if you don't have thick skin 😂) and an easy way I've learned over time for trash bags is to flatten em out before you ever put it in the can, I'll shake out a bag fully open then bunch up the opening and put it under my arm and pull the whole bag through forcing all the air out then put it in the can with no air inside

😅 if you want an easier way to do the trash, just grab the bag by both ends and toss the bottom in while still holding the top. I'm a janitor and this works every time for me. It looks kind of aggressive while I'm in the zone doing a bunch of trash cans at once but no air issues, no lifting the corner to get the air out, and it's quick. You can totally do the vacuum thing if you want and have the time but I will not be lol
