Trying to play nice means having to tell his base to dial it back and there was no way he was ever going to do that. He’s shown repeatedly that he equates voter enthusiasm with overall popularity, it’s one reason he can’t fathom that Biden beat him in 2020. He’s going keep feeding that base, it’s all he knows.

One important reason for people who are in favour of Trump being re-elected, particularly for those outside the US:
Unlike other US presidents, his four-year term was characterised by the cessation of new wars on a global scale. This is, in general, what a great leader with a big heart is expected to do. I guess you agree with that.

An example, I can't help but think that if Hillary had won, the war in Ukraine would have started four years earlier than it did.
