[audio description]: One Out of Five Disability History and Pride Project. Charlotte, Seattle, Washington. Grade 4.


CHARLOTTE: My name is Charlotte and I go to John Rogers and I am in fourth grade. I am twelve years old. I like playing baseball, I like to go swimming.


[audio description]: Charlotte rolls down the hallway in her wheelchair.


[audio description]: Charlotte in class.


(CHARLOTTE): I guess... don't know. I like math. It's fun. We do my wheelchair in music and art.


[audio description]: Charlotte in her wheelchair in art class.


CHARLOTTE: And sometimes I walk, sometimes I don't, sometimes I do... [clicks tongue] yeah.


[audio description]: Charlotte hits the table with her wheelchair.


[wheelchair hitting table]


CHARLOTTE: I'm good!


[audio description]: Charlotte paints a blue dog in art class.


(CHARLOTTE): For art class, oh, we paint that blue, we try to paint blue and we do that. Sometimes we read books before we do crafting. We read the Blue Dog book about um, yeah. Every Thursday, Lunch Bunch group.


[audio description]: Charlotte attends Lunch Bunch group and plays games with teachers and other students with disabilities.


(CHARLOTTE): Not every day, but sometimes I don't invite friends. Kids invite me to come to Lunch Bunch. Sometimes we do that because, yeah. We play Connect Four with Teacher Kelsey.


(STUDENT): Oh! Four in a row.


(TEACHER): I got four in a row.


[audio description]: Charlotte displays her adaptive recess equipment.


CHARLOTTE: This one I don't really use. I have this!


[bell rings]


Um, let me show you that thing.


[audio description]: Charlotte plays tether ball.


[kids yelling]

- Whoa!


(STUDENT): I have to go easy on her!


[audio description]: Charlotte struggles up a ramp.


CHARLOTTE: Bleh, this is not how I push, at all! I had my mom five years now and... we go everywhere so we pretty much go everywhere. And we go fun place.


[audio description]: Charlotte and her mom spend time with friends who use wheelchairs.


[mellow music]


[audio description]: Friends Anita and Karen move a small box.


[music continues]


[audio description]: They place an Instant Pot on top so Charlotte can help cook.


KAREN: There we go, now we can see it!


CHARLOTTE: Uh oh! Something happened that day. We was making Indian food and... we just started making Indian. Me, Karen taught us, Karen said, "Don't drop the bowl!" What happened? Karen did!


KAREN: Do you want me to do it?


CHARLOTTE: Yeah, you do it. I'm a little scared.


KAREN: Ok, alright. It's too much.


KAREN: Ok, let go.


[thunk]


CHARLOTTE: Whoa!


[audio description]: Karen drops the bowl.


[Karen laughs]


CHARLOTTE: Oops!


(ANITA): Did you drop the bowl?


[laughter continues]


KAREN: That is exactly... I did exactly what I asked you not to do.


(CHARLOTTE'S MOM): What you told her not to do.


KAREN: Oh my gosh is that the funniest thing ever.


CHARLOTTE: Not plan that happen.


ANITA: Is everyone else clean?


CHARLOTTE: Yeah


KAREN: Yeah, yeah We just have to wipe up a little bit, it's okay. Good job, keep stirring.
