I Finally Tried Divinity Original Sin 2

Since I got a very warm response in my video complaining about how hard CRPG's were, I decided to take in all of the communities advice and divining into yet another CRPG, needless to say the reaction this time was much different....

That's great news that you're enjoying DoS2. A few tips and things to note for a new player like yourself are:
- Take your time with the game and don't be afraid of missing things.
- Engage with the crafting system. It's quite useful and it can make you a decent amount of money as well. Something you can also do for instance is take a poison barrel (like the one that is next to where you get Fane) and combine it with empty potion vials for a ton of poison potions. This helps a lot with Fane since he heals with it.
- Armor is king. Sure, healing is useful but losing armor will cause you to be CC'd to oblivion.
- The thievery skill is very good early game. You can only pickpocket someone once but it's incredibly useful. This is especially the case in the early game where you don't have much money and the skill tablets are useful to get.
- Holding shift lets you see sight lines. For NPCs, you can also change them around by simply talking to the NPCs in a different direction.
- Shops refresh their stock about every hour of ingame time which is about 5 minutes IRL time.
- Movement and teleport skills are very useful since movement uses action points. If you don't have the required skill for the ability, there are items that give you the ability as well. In fort joy, for example, there are some gloves that you can find that give you the ability to teleport someone. Look for Gawin in Fort Joy and follow his quest.
- Don't worry about your build too much. Do what you find effective and roll with it. After you finish Act 1, you'll gain access to something that gives you infinite re-specializations for FREE. Just remember to get the skill tablets associated with what you want to do.

Played this game years ago. Dropped it after finishing act 1 since every combat encounter was a bitter struggle.
Week ago started playing again after a friend gave me some pointers and now its a breeze.
I am now almost at the end of act 1 and I cant wait to see what act 2 has to offer .

I played this game years ago in Blind Honour Mode. Excellent adrenaline laden challenge and a way to force you to explore all aspects and mechanics of such a well made game. There are so many avenues and ways to play this game (not talking about exploits like barrelmancy or that dumb trick of splitting your group and rig up the battlefield), that you get to appreciate how much thought they put into customizable character builds and ways to incorporate crafting and gearing and all that into your gameplay to squeeze every ounce of advantage.

My first intro to this genre was DOS2. It absolutely thrashed me initially in a1 but then I took a short break(3 days) and revisited it after a day and it started clicking, while still thrashing me in future encounters. My first run was on classic difficulty and I cleared it.

Edit: I played the game again recently on tactician and finished it. My first run was using controller, second on kbm. both had pros and cons, but overall extremely smooth experience in both input modes.

I can't wait to get this on payday. I've been loving BG3 and want to buy every Larian game as well as play all the best CRPG's.

So this game doesn't have quest marks to make it easier to find quest destinations?

My actual-intro to RPGs was DoS1, while i never finished it, i do plan to, and was introduced to me by older brother, i stopped mostly because Larian back then felt too eager and ungrounded, with it's older-game sexism, overly grim-dark for the sake of dark quests and the puzzles being too smart for me back then, but my love grounded for DoS and Larian when i finally played DoS2, and it honestly made me reflect at times, which games rarely do for me. And i truly appreciate the characters and story, it's delightful to play :D And the music...

Now i wait to try BG3, and while i doubt i'd play BG1-2, simply because i'm spoiled for good graphics and easy controls ;D I do hope you enjoy countless more RPGs, they're truly incredible to say the least!

Loved the first game. I have tried several times to play the second, but I was just not in the headspace for that. Still, it's a great pick to begin with if you really wanna try something turn-based tactical strategy CRPG.

This game just the same as BG 3 I started it on easy difficulty then I slowly ramp up to tactician

Man, as much as I enjoyed BG3, I always kept thinking how I would've had more fun if the combat was more like Divinity: Original Sin 2.

I never enjoyed DnD combat. In fact, any game with accuracy based combat that isn't accuracy based on skill of the player (like FPS games) feels worse.

That's why Darkest Dungeon 2 had better combat than Darkest Dungeon. Wasting a whole turn on "being unlucky and missing", especially if it's one of your biggest abilities/spells, feels SO BAD.

In DDoS2, I was hyped when I beat a tough encounter.
In BG3, I was hyped when I landed an ability. And not even legit hyped, but more sarcastic hyped.

Try not to get spoiled, some reveals are really satisfying.

The only warning I'd give is that the second half of the game can be a bit of a confusing slog, and most players agree that Fort Joy is the best part of the game (because they had so much playtesting and feedback on it). So try not to get disheartened later in the game by thinking "am i going crazy or is this a but unfun and everybody is saying this game is perfect?"

The reality is that Larian planned a lot more content beyond the current ending, but the deadline was soon coming, so they had to stuff a lot of quest closure in one area and it ends up feeling rushed.
