Connecting to AOL 4.0 with Dial Up! 90's Throwback.

Testing out my 19 year old email on America Online 4.0. Using the 20$ a month service plan.
The laptop I am using is a 2004 Dell Latitude D600.

Of course this isn't my main computer, but it was one of the only laptops I had around that ran AOL 4.0 correctly.

For anyone still wondering, America Online has discontinued the client back in 2017. Unfortunately as well as the Dial-Up service (I think). However, you can still access AOL using a different ISP but that removes the nostalgia factor.

This brings back memories. I could stay hours in chat rooms. Now I get on the internet and after 10 minutes I am bored.

I think society was a lot more patient than today while web surfing. Remember how you could find AOL trial cds ALL OVER THE PLACE.

May seem kind of weird, but I really like looking up these dial-up Internet videos on YouTube every now and then. They rekindle fond memories of being a kid and discovering an amazing new technology for the first time. Even though I was young, I could tell we were at the beginning of an amazing new era. Good times.

This is surprisingly valuable footage. The guy who is making the AOL 4.0 emulator discovered that almost all footage of the AOL log-in process was fake. So this should help him emulate in a more historically accurate way. Thanks!

I remember getting AOL when my family got a new computer in 1999. It was awesome. I would talk to people on the message boards. It was mostly the music boards, and we talked about not only music, but about school, how our day was, our families/friends/etc.

Nostalgia of logging in and an AOL customer service pleading me to not cancel back in the late '90s.

0:52 I love how the sound of a stable connection (Static) is in the background of the You got mail sound data.

I got on AOL a few years back...It makes you think of them Ancient civilizations long gone...You can visualize at one time it was a busy community, Hustle and bustle, now it's quiet and Baron...I'd get on Friday night and there would be a bunch of people on it...now its nobody.
