In my 10+ years as a software developer, I have learned the best thing to do is not to become too focused on a specific language or stack but to build a more basic skill set which can be transferable across different languages and stacks. We are all trying to solve similar problems; the language and the stack are just tools. Also, most good employers are not expecting a complete expert who knows everything; sure, experience helps. Still, it also helps recruit people who are not experts but are willing to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Python is a great "weekend hobby" .. I've even built simple apps for my employer without being a Python "professional" and it's very rewarding!

Here's my experience with python. I have a background in video production and recently made the switch to software engineering. I had taught myself python as just a fun pastime activity, but it was enough to get me into a software engineering traineeship. Starting with python really allowed me to wrap my head around certain programming concepts without having to worry too much about a fussy syntax. This foundation then made it a lot easier for me to also pick up other languages later on.

I've been programming for 40 years on many systems with many languages. Python is by far my favorite. I do back end data processing.

You should've mentioned that Python is a very specific and the base language for data engineers, data analysts, machine learning and deep learning engineers, everyone who works around data and AI. Of course also R, Rust, C++ and others are employed in the mentioned fields, but no language can be compared to Python there. You have to go deep into Python and it's frameworks if you indeed want to master those fields.

man, I barely comment on Youtube channels, I currently work in Financial data firm as a financial analyst and developed an interest in understanding coding as a whole, I started learning different languages, (front end and back end related) I had solid understanding of SQL previously, thanks to you things are easier and my path is clearer, keep the amazing work man

I'd add that Python is kind of a nich specialize role as well, not just a generalist role. Machine Learning/AI and Cyber Security are two job functions that will absolutely require Python above other languages.

Thank you so much for the video!
Tim, do you believe that python has a future in the other fields rather than ML and Data Science? What about Data Engineering, IoT?
Thank you for your time!

Python is so general and so popular that I can find resources to learn how to do just about anything in Python. While I can also do almost anything in JavaScript or Java, resources (such as Udemy courses) showing how to use them for various business uses are hard to find, but easy to find for Python. Therefore, I'm finding that Python is a really good choice for exploration. For example, I'm currently taking the Udemy course "Python Programming for Solar PV Energy Domain Aspirants." I can't find a comparable course for other languages. Likewise, I've bought courses for using Python in supply chain management, accounting, finance, business intelligence and and robotics. If I were in a hurry to change careers, I probably wouldn't follow this path, but I'm not.
