I believe that the baby is a descendant of Hastur, the king in yellow, since their basic attire is yellow clothing. The baby has a crown on his shirt and a book in his room that is titled 'How to dream like a king'. This implies his ancestor's demonic powers were passed down to him. The white rabbit may be the first one to babysit the child and may have come back as a white rabbit to guide any others who try to babysit him. The doctor may be the king in yellow himself, drained of his power after giving it to his descendant. This may be subject to change in future updates.

Pretty sure we aren't meant to read the baby as being possessed. It is the eldritch abomination, rather than being a vessel for it. The player is there because a baby eldritch abomination is still a baby that needs to be fed and kept entertained even as it slowly drives its favorite sitters to madness and its tantrums warp the world around it.

Honestly, I think the title of the game is more of a references to Hastus, The King In Yellow. It's a Lovecraftian entity from the book of the same name. Also, the recording on Day 2 with the baby having revealed secrets to the recorder is like how many Lovecraftian characters like Hastur and Cthulhu inflict upon humans.

Even the poem recited after said jumpscare is pretty much from the books.

Obvious Lovecraftian ties aside, The Baby itself could actually be Hastur's "avatar". While in the book, the king himself isn't shown till the end, when Carcosa is revealed to be a purgatory specifically for those who artistic or theatrically interested.

In a way, it reminds me of SCP-701, The Hanged King's Tragedy.

Theory:
The baby is actually a innocent soul who was taken control by a demon. His parents decided to sacrifice people to him so he won't harm them. The rabbit symbols are actually saying "run", since rabbits are fast. When he showed his true form, the babysitter had to run. Showing how much he wants to kill people since the person who letted the demon in him angered him. His parents never came back so they will be safe from the demonic child. When you didn't feed him, the demon tried to force us so it can gain more power.
