The need for African countries to be allocated a permanent seat on the #UNSecurityCouncil seems to be getting more momentum. This is as Chad is asking for Africa to be allowed to join the United Nations Security Council as a permanent member. Speaking to the UN on Friday, Chad's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Awatif El Tidjani Ahmed Koiboro, said it would "correct an historic injustice" and help countries in the G5 Sahel.

The #UNSC is made up of 15 members, five of whom are permanent and have veto-wielding power: the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom. The 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) opened on Tuesday, 13 September 2022, with the high level debate running from Tuesday, 20th September to Monday, 26th September.

Today on #TheConversation, we talked about the #HistoricalInjustice that has made Africa the only region in the world without a permanent seat in the council with a veto.

You cannot make a demand for something if its a privillage and not a right. I have no say in who the executive of the african union are. Charity begins at home.
