I am licensed in Texas. I travel across state lines frequently. My license makes it easier to be compliant in other states that recognize reciprocity regarding my license. It makes me feel better having it.

We all want to see federal reciprocity and be able to carry anywhere.

I got stopped for speeding by a sheriff deputy once. I handed him my LTC and DL. He took one look at both and handed them back and said "have a good day, and slow down." Stop took less than 5 minutes.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

The State assured the counties in California that CCW holder names, address ect would remain confidential. Then they accidentally released that data during a randon 24 hours. Judges were on that list and they were pissed!

Several reasons why I am renewing mine.
1. Makes it so much easier to purchase a firearm. I like the fact that I don't have to wait 30 minutes or 2 days for a backroundcheck.. I can pretty much go in and out within 15 minutes.
2. It seems my LTC has gotten me out of 2 tickets and most traffic law enforcement in TX are very lenient when you hand your LTC and treat them politely.

3. Simply because it gives me extra protections that I dont have without an LTC.

If you travel outside of state often you should probably get it BUT it should not be required at all anywhere.
The 2nd amendment is your license. States that require a permit are violating the U.S. Constitution

As with other commenters, I got stopped for a traffic infraction here in TX. Handed him my DL and LTC. He asked if I was carrying. I said 3 o'clock. He said have a nice day, handed back both cards and I was on my way. LTC for me.

In about a month I'll be celebrating my 30th year of holding a carry permit. I will absolutely continue to renew.

Speaking of lawmakers getting in trouble, there was a pilot who was charged by the FAA for landing at an uncontrolled airport where construction workers were working at the end of a long, but closed runway. What he did was legal, but the FAA tried to prosecute him without a trial under onesided FAA regulations. The late Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe didn't take it lying down. Not only did he beat the FAA, he got Congress to pass the "Pilot's Bill of Rights" which gave aviators a chance to fight back. Now, pilots who are wrongly charged with violating FAA regulations, can have a jury trial by their peers. Before that the FAA, with the rubber stamp approval of the NTSB, was the judge, jury and executioner for every pilot deviation. Although there is no constitutional right to pilot an aircraft, this just shows what lawmakers can do to administrative agencies that make up their own rules.

I see a lot of good reasons here. My reason for renewing my license was because it allows me to go to a gun show or gun store and purchase a gun (as if I don't have enough now) and walk out same day after purchase. I live in Florida (Ex-military), those that don't have a license still have that 3-4 day waiting period depending on the county you live in. I just don't feel like having to come back 3-4 days later to pick up my purchase.

Thanks. I am approaching my 84 birthday and have been licensed to carry in Texas for over 22 years. As such, I have been considering not renewing but thanks to your timely advise I will definitely renew.

All great points! I've maintained my Florida CWP since 1999, even though our state has recently gone "permittless" (NOT Constitutional carry). Keeping one's licence to carry, just makes life easier...

I live in Alabama. When you go to the sheriff's office to get or renew your CCW they print out your new CCW ID on the spot. No waiting for it to come in the mail.

When I had to go through the stupid training to get my CCW permit, the instructor spent half of the session shilling for USCCA, and kept lying about how the fact that were a USCCA member and paid for their classes would make a HUGE difference if you were ever involved in a self-defense incident. Really pissed me off.

I'm in Indiana and we have a Lifetime License to Carry here and I have one. I've had mine for 10 years now and it was way before we went Constitutional carry. I've never regretted getting it either.

In Washington state you used to be able to cash and carry if you had a state issued (no reciprocity with any other state) Concealed Carry License. Several years ago, they passed a law adding an additional state check to the NICS after filling out your 4473. It required 10 business days before you could take posession of your firearm, thus negating one of the benefits to have gone thru the additional vetting process. So happy to have taken another job and moved to a free state
