Description of Via Alpina - Stage 12: Lauterbrunnen to Griesalp via Mürren

Stage 12 of the Via Alpina takes you from Lauterbrunnen over Mürren to Griesalp, a challenging yet breathtaking hike that, unfortunately, was shrouded in fog when I undertook it.

I began my journey early in the morning in Lauterbrunnen, taking the gondola up to Mürren, a picturesque village perched like a balcony above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. From there, I continued my hike in a mystical atmosphere, with dense fog enveloping the surrounding peaks and valleys.

The trail led me past the Rotstockhütte, where I briefly paused, soaking in the eerie stillness brought on by the fog. Afterward, I continued towards the Sefinenfurgge, one of the highest points of this stage. The ascent was demanding, especially under the challenging weather conditions. The thick fog obscured the majestic mountain landscape, and occasional drizzle made the hike even more challenging.

Despite the limited visibility, the atmosphere at the Sefinenfurgge was unique, offering a profound sense of solitude and peace. The descent towards Griesalp took me through a varied landscape, where the fog gradually lifted, and I finally reached the end of this stage.

Arriving in Griesalp, I felt a mix of relief and satisfaction, even though the weather had mostly denied me the stunning views this route is known for. Nevertheless, it was an unforgettable stage that provided a special connection with the raw elements of nature.

Hoi Pascal, das war eine mystische, fast gespenstige Wanderung. Das braucht eine gewisse Art Mut, eine so anspruchsvolle Etappe in Angriff zu nehmen. Ein Bravo für dich. Diese Etappe habe ich nicht gemacht. Dafür wanderte ich von Mürren via Rotstockhütte hinauf zum Schilthorn. LG Hanspeter
