He Aloha No `O Honolulu - Led Kaapana and the Tiple

I recently had my tiple restored with a neck reset, refret, and new saddle and now it can be tuned to a normal tuning. And now Ledward can really show what he can do on the tiple.

The song we're doing is the classic "He Aloha No `O Honolulu" by Lot Kauwe. It's a great song as a vocal, and has a melody that really works with the slack key guitar. Clearly it suits the tiple nicely as well.

The tiple is a 10 string instrument with four courses or groups of strings. The overall tuning is the same as the `ukulele, with the outer strings in pairs and the inners in threes. We found this tiple to respond well to a D6 version of `ukulele tuning, spelled A D F# B from low to high.

My guitar is a Martin OM-18GE tuned to open G tuning, D G D G B D from lowest pitch to highest.

We recorded this session using a Rode NT4 stereo mic into an RME UFX interface and captured in REAPER. Video was shot with a pair of Panasonic Lumix GH4 cameras. All editing was done in Edius.
