The control key helps move inventory between your backpack and storage. When held down, all of the same items selected will move in one shot to the new container. You also need to build more oxygen, pressure and heat to unlock the progress screen and food growers. A good balance of oxygen, pressure and heat is critical for a growth in TI to unlock new items. Usually 4 food growers are a minimum to sustain life.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but you might not want to focus too much on your original base location....
