They obviously forgot the part about your screen being blank. I finally found some youtube videos that talked about fixing this problem. One them said to check to make sure that it is just your screen that is blank by plugging an external monitor into the HDMI port on my Dell Inspiron 7519 and BAM!! I had a screen again on the external monitor. I still have not figured out how to stop the screen from going blank for no reason!!! :( I will try this one now and let you know.

5 week old laptop. Screen went black and rebooted. Went black again and rebooted a few hours later.
Now the screen is off permanently. It's a brand new hardly used laptop...

CTRL+ALT+F12 doesn't do anything. So instructions aren't correct.

It’s happen with Linux OS too. It has nothing to do with software. This is their firmware bug after updation and unfortunately dell doesn’t permit us to downgrade bios to initial version. All business tactics.

There seems to be a problem with all the 5520 series. When entering stand-by sometimes the screen goes black just like switching to an external video output. If you connect an external monitor, it will show you what's on-screen.
