I have a coworker from Afghanistan. He recently traveled there to visit. He came back and brought us all gifts. We fast and pray together at work. Good brother.

Yeah. It's like that around that neck of the woods. I went to Iran and I couldn't seem to pay for myself anywhere. I got fed, housed and peeps even paid for my bus and subway fares (Tehran). I met the most kind and generous people I have met anywhere. You are truly treated like an honoured guest. They put the rest of the worlds sense of hospitality to shame.

When I was a very young child my father got a job as an engineer for Shell Oil that required us to move to Terhan, Iran for a year (from West Virginia, lol). My mom always told me growing up the Iranian people were the most gracious people she had ever met and strangers constantly invited us into their homes to eat, but that you couldn't compliment anything in their home bc then they would forcibly GIVE you that thing whatever it was and not take no for an answer, that their KINDNESS could just not be equalled anywhere. She always said it was basically the complete opposite of what the American media portrays. This was right before their revolution.

I did a tour there then went back as a contractor and that’s when I really got to know the Afghan people. From interpreters to tribal militiamen (they hated the taliban more than we did) they were some of the most solid dudes I’ve ever met

Met an Afghanistan refugee about 7 or 8 years ago in Chicago. One of the nicest people I have ever met! Still keep in touch with him once in a while. He just published a book about the struggles of the people who worked in the government of Afghanistan.
