Thank you so much for this step by step and simple tutorial. It has to be the first time I've seen one that was so straight forward and easy to follow. My first attempt...not perfect, but much better than I've done before!

I really like these 'to the point' tutorials - they're kind of like 'refresher' courses!

The hardest thing for me is trying to replace a background behind trees \ foliage - for instance a photo taken in a wooded area, with a plain, bland sky in the background that I want to replace with a sky with clouds, a sunset, or even a night sky. The mask and refine does pretty well, but I still wind up with lots of fringing around the finer details like leaves. I'll often resort to using a custom brush to paint in the small details on a layer in between the trees and sky.

Hey Colin! Great tutorial as always.

Since you asked: The area I struggle with the most is kind of boring but I always have issues isolating objects and being satisfied with the results. For Amazon and for our corporate site, I need to take product shots and have them on either a white or black background. I have light boxes for taking the photos of the objects, but I'm never really happy with how they come out. I can finagle them in Photoshop but it takes a lot of editing even with good light to get a good result so what I really could use help with is speeding up that process so that I can do multiple angles of a product and it won't take an entire day to do.

Keep the great tutorials coming!

Hi Colin. I’ve been away from photoshop for quite some time. I had to do a cutout and followed this technique and it worked very well. Thank you for doing this for us.

Good tutorial Colin. I like your approach. Photoshop is fun to use and you bring that across in your teaching. I wonder if you have tips on how to combine 2 or 3 layered psds into a single psd. Thanks mate. I look forward to exploring your channel.

In this tutorial, how is the background made ready - I didn't see this in the layers panel during the process. I love the way you explained right from the beginning. I am following and loving it. Thank you.
