Alice Guo given 2 minutes to say anything after new contempt order

Dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo was cited in contempt yet again on Thursday (September 19), this time by the House of Representatives for giving "evasive" answers during its quad-committee's probe into illegal POGOs.

Guo, who had previously been cited in contempt by the Senate twice, is currently detained at the Philippine National Police custodial center upon the order of a Tarlac court.

Guo has not posted bail for the graft charges filed against her in Tarlac — a move which congressmen on Thursday criticized as a tactic to avoid detention at either chambers of Congress.

Following her contempt citation and the panel's decision not to grant her request for executive session, Guo was given two minutes as an opportunity to "reveal something" or say "whatever she would like to say."

"Medyo gulong-gulo po ako ngayon," Guo said, before excusing herself to consult her lawyer.

Later on, she made use of the two minutes to explain her decision not to post bail, admitting it was in relation to the contempt orders against her.

I have watched house hearings from other countries, and the solons do not act this way. Simply because they can not pressure Ms Guo to give the answers they need. If the government has enough evidence, file her a case and let the court handle the trial.

As much as Alice Guo is frustrating both the Senate and the House of Reps, I really don't understand why her decision to not be bailed out of one of her case should become such a big issue. Whether a person chooses to bail themselves out or not, I think it is pure speculation from the Rep's end to claim; she did not bail herself out because she wants to be under the custody of the PNP.

This is why watching the whole Alice Guo drama is so annoying. The government just shows its incompetency. Politicians showing their attitude and claiming to know more than her is unprofessional and embarrassing, considering the whole world can watch this. If the representative is going to ask a question just to answer it themselves, then what's the point of asking such a question? Asking why she didn't pay the bail sounded as though they were frustrated that they couldn't pocket an extra 180k pesos.

If she wants an executive session, then give her that session. These politicians claim to force her to say these in the hearings in the name of letting every Filipino know the truth. Instead, all I can get from these hearings as a former Filipino citizen is the incompetency of these politicians to actually find means to get down to the root of the issue. These politicians are all sitting on their thrones and when the time comes when they get caught in a corruption case, they will do the same thing that Alice Guo is doing.
