1 John 4:1-3
4:1a: Beloved, do not believe every spirit,
4:1b but test the spirits
4:1c: to determine whether they are from God,
4:1d: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
4:2a: By this you know the Spirit of God;
4:2b: every spirit … is from God,
|
4:2c: that repeatedly acknowledges Jesus to be the Christ who has come in flesh.
4:3a: but every spirit … is not from God;
|
4:3b: that does not repeatedly claim Jesus [has come in the flesh]
4:3c: and this is the spirit of the Antichrist,
4:3d: about which you have heard (that it is coming),
4:3e: and [which] is now in the world already.

1 John 4:4-6
4:4a: You yourselves are from God, little children,
4:4b: and you have overcome them (= antichrists),
4:4c: because the one (= Spirit of God) who [is] in you is greater
than the one (= spirit of the Antichrist) who [is] in the world.
4:5a: They (= antichrists) themselves are from the world;
4:5b: therefore they speak regularly from the world’s perspective
4:5c: and the world listens regularly to them.
3
4:6a: We ourselves are from God;
4:6b: (the person who knows God) listens to us,
4:6c: (whoever is not from God) does not listen to us.
4:6d: From this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of
deceit.

Phrases of Enlightenment
Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits
By this we know the Spirit of God, that repeatedly
acknowledges Jesus to be the Christ
You yourselves are from God, little children, and you
have overcome
