Dr. Baginski: To become a primary care sports doc you initially do your training in primary care. So that can be family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, ER or PM&R. So that's around three to four years depending on which field. And then, you do a one year fellowship in sports medicine. So that's how you kind of get that specialization.

Please share the full pathway to becoming a sports med. My son will be graduating high school this year and is interested in this field. What should his (4 year) undergraduate degree be? I was thinking BioMed or Kinesiology. After that you go to med school right? (Possibly another 2-3 Years). Then you choose your primary care specialty. My sons want PM&R (3 years), then the fellowship (1 year ). Are we looking at 11-12 years to complete the process?
