We're in an age of 1000 hp+ turbo V8s but making 700 hp in 1993 with only 5.0 liters and a centrifugal supercharger is impressive!

201 mph. That's exactly as fast as the F40 at the time. These men were pioneers.

The fox body mustang! What a great car it's been over the years...still a very desirable car to modify!

That’s very impressive still a pushrod old school sbf ho . Some people don’t know how to make power with those cars thus why they swap other engines into foxes but these guys nailed it ! Sbf all the way

Ken Dutweiler who built the engine became famous for basically being the first to tune the Buick Grand National turbo cars. He was building and making speed parts for the GN in the mid 80's and getting ridiculous power from those Buicks. If I'm not mistaken he switched over to the Fox Mustangs later or built both. He was on the cutting edge at the beginning phases of computerized horsepower...

Fox body the platform that helped save Fomoco.

Thank you for posting this!  Read about this car so many times but never saw the original article.  It's nice to see video of the engine bay.  Interesting time for cars... before intercooling superchargers got popular.

With a 160 mpg police gauge installed, my 89’ GT Convertible would hit 138 mph with 3:73s and a Saleen Whale Tail out back. 20 years later I still have it in the garage. Never tried with the Vortech Supercharger I stalled.

I went 515mph on a stock airbus 320. Feels like your floating on a cloud.

god i miss the old days. I was (and in my heart will have a special place) a mustang guy in the 80's and early early 90's. From my 85, forged and roller cam stock with gears, pulley's and exhaust with a 125 power shot of nos to my 89 with the B303 came and supercharger. Those eighties mustangs up to 92/3 were awesome.

If I remember correctly, Car and Driver built a Firebird to do 200 mph. Theirs was powered by a Banks twin turbo system. They had some interesting problems like the door windows started to pop out at speed due to the air pressure differential inside and outside the car.

This was an amazing feat back then. Looking at cars that break 200 over the years you'd never think this car would be capable. IMO most mustangs feel very light and flighty at high speeds

I remember this Ford Mustang! I love it. So many years have gone by now. Still an awesome Mustang.

I watched this episode when I came out. I’ve been loyal to motor week since the beginning on Maryland Public television.

I remember reading about this project over 25 years ago in either Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords or Super Fords magazines,

I still have the issues of Car Craft somewhere that covered this car. I remember reading about it I think in 1994.

Amazing what technology can do, 20 or so years later you can buy a stock NA Mustang GT that's probably about 20mph shy of 200. Gotta love it!
